Millfield pentathletes to represent England at the Youth School Games

Six of Millfield’s talented Pentathletes have been selected to represent England at the Youth School Games, in Laser Run.

Oliver Tomlinson and Steffi De La O in Year 9, Zac Cooper and Bianca Gomez-Velasco in Year 10, Verner Krynauw in Year 11 and Sabrina Jones in Lower Sixth will be representing England.

Steffi De La O has just competed in the World Triathle Championships in Germany, securing a fantastic 17th place overall. She has returned to the UK for the Laser Run.

Laser Run is an exiting event where athletes run head-to-head over a set number of laps which are combined with the requirement to complete 5 successful shots with a laser pistol at a target. For the competitors to be successful, they must have the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure to ensure there is enough time at the range, whist running confidently throughout.

During the four-day event, more than 1,300 of the UK's most talented young athletes will compete across 10 sports in the first UK multi-sport event for young athletes to take place after lockdown.

Over the course of the four-day event, the young athletes will not only take part in laser run training sessions and competitions, but the Youth Sport Trust will also focus on the development of young people's mental and social wellbeing, through the delivery of a series of workshops that will be run. There will also be further educational opportunities and workshops with coaches available for the athletes in attendance.
