Millfield Prep School Rugby Players Enjoy Q&A with Wales Rugby Player Callum Sheedy

Millfield Prep School pupils were joined by professional Welsh rugby player Callum Sheedy for a remote question and answer session this week.

Callum Sheedy is an Old Millfieldian, who currently plays rugby for Bristol Bears, and gained his first international cap for Wales during last year’s Autumn Internationals. He is also a member of the Welsh Rugby squad for the 2021 Six Nations.

The boys in Years 7 and 8 were delighted with the opportunity to talk to the rugby player during their Saturday morning enrichment club. They asked questions about his rugby journey, the transition from school rugby to the professional stage, the importance of playing different sports during school and playing in many different positions on the pitch when developing as a rugby player.

Callum also gave the aspiring sportsmen some advice throughout the session about how to get the most out of their rugby training in school and utilising all the opportunities available to them.

The boys were motivated by Sheedy’s positivity, resilience, and determination to succeed. Year 8 pupil Brychan said, “It was very inspiring to hear about Callum’s journey from Millfield to playing international rugby”.

“It was fantastic to be able to give the pupils the opportunity to talk to a current professional sports person, who inspired them to keep working hard, to remember to learn from their mistakes and always give their best”, says Millfield Prep rugby coach John Ford. “It was clear that the boys thoroughly enjoyed this session and took a lot from it. It really showed the importance of continuing to offer these enriching holistic experiences during the current lockdown and period of remote teaching.”

Whilst in lockdown, Millfield Prep pupils are enjoying a wide range of co-curricular enrichment clubs on Saturday mornings, from French Cooking and Logic Puzzles, to Nature Journaling and Cricket Umpiring.
