Millfield Prep School Table Tennis Player becomes U13 Somerset County Champion

Millfield Prep School table tennis player Jack Liu has become U13 Somerset County Champion.

Year 7 Jack has now qualified for the national finals which will be held on 25 April in Wolverhampton. Since starting at Millfield Prep in Year 5, Jack has benefited from the ever-growing table tennis programme at school, taking part in several clubs and practice sessions. Alongside his individual success, he is part of the U11A team who qualified to play in the South West English Schools Table Tennis Championships and the U13A team who became Somerset champions and reached the South of England English Schools Championships.

As well as his commitment to table tennis, Jack is a keen chess player, playing board 1 for the Somerset County team. He has reached the national finals for the past two years, finished third in the IAPS Championships and in 2018, he represented China at the World Youth Championships in Spain. Alongside his passion for sport, Jack is an exceptional musician, already reaching Grade 7 in piano.

Millfield School in Street, Somerset is working with the District and Parish Council, The Salvation Army, Crispin Hall and the Community Centre on a number of initiatives to help the local community during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Joe Root Academy

Millfield is teaming up with England Test Captain Joe Root and the “R66T Academy”, in an exclusive deal which will bring the world-class cricket programme to Somerset. The partnership creates the opportunity for young players from across the UK to attend the R66T academy coaches at the school’s facilities in Street, Somerset, for courses during the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays. 

Eloise Year 9 community

Millfield student Eloise Whitehouse has created a support network for 68 residents at four local care homes in Somerset who are in lockdown due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Thirteen-year-old Eloise from Keinton Mandeville is helping to co-ordinate messages and activities for residents in The Tudors in Glastonbury, Beech Tree House in Keinton Mandeville, Avalon Court in Butleigh, and Friarn House in Bridgwater.
