Millfield rider Isla Sully has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Aachen Youngstars International Dressage competition.
15-year-old Isla from Glastonbury will be competing for the under-18 Great Britain section at the Aachen Youngstars International dressage competition in Germany, in November 2023.
Isla said, “I was really pleased to be selected, Aachen is one of the most sought-after competitions to go to.”
Isla is a day student, who joined Millfield Prep in Year 7, and has remained dedicated to her riding throughout her time at Millfield. She said, “I have been riding since I was a toddler and over the past two years I have been internationally competing at dressage. Millfield has been supportive with helping me keep up with my studies as well as being a full-time rider.”
In addition to her riding, Isla is taking history, business and catering for her GCSE’s and enjoys trying out other sports at school. She said, “I have really enjoyed playing tennis, hockey, and cycling during my time at Millfield.”
Isla trains exclusively outside of school, however, Millfield Equestrian supports her development and provides external dressage coaching alongside expertise in strength and conditioning. Isla said, “I chose to join Millfield because I wanted to be at a school that supported both academics and sports.”
Next year, Isla plans to compete in more international competitions. She said, “I have really enjoyed competing this year, and it has really boosted my confidence. “This year, I won my first international
medal, winning bronze in the under-18 team class and eighth individually in the freestyle class at the European Championships in July. I have also been placed sixth in the World Junior ranking, which is a huge achievement for me. I am looking forward to competing more next year.”
