Millfield School appoint new Head of Swimming

Millfield School have announced the appointment of a new Head of Swimming, Keiron Piper.

Keiron takes up the role of Head of Swimming having been Lead Swimming Coach at Millfield since October 2022. Alongside coaching the school’s brightest young swimmers, Keiron formed part of the Millfield Performance Squad coaching team, who prepared swimmers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they won four medals, including three golds.

Previous to Millfield, Keiron was Head Coach of Sevenoaks Swimming Club for four years. During his time at Sevenoaks, he led the swimming squad to the National Arena B Final, where they achieved record qualifiers and medals in the County, Regional and National Championships, with three swimmers also qualifying and medalling at junior international level.

Keiron, who is from Ramsgate, Kent, began teaching swimming and coaching from the age of 16 before studying Law at University. Whilst studying, Keiron kept up with swimming while also competing in rowing. After graduating, Keiron returned as an Age Group and Assistant Head Coach at Thanet Swim Club whilst studying part-time.

Millfield’s Director of Sport, Irena Dzisiewska, said “Following a rigorous selection process, Keiron stood out as the outstanding candidate. He impressed with his vision, leadership, and commitment to developing balanced, successful athletes. Keiron is already a remarkable asset in the swim team and I’m delighted that he is taking over from a fantastic character and leader in Euan Dale. I am sure that his dedication to achieving brilliance will enable our students to achieve their full potential. We are excited about this new chapter for our swim programme and look forward to seeing the continued success of our students under Keiron's guidance.”

Keiron said “I am thrilled and honoured to be stepping up as the new Head of Swimming at Millfield. The past few years have been historic for the programme and I know all swimmers, practitioners and coaches are keen in continuing to help evolve and move Millfield Swimming forward. Coach Dale has been an unbelievable mentor and educator for us all, and I can’t wait to follow in his footsteps. It’s an exciting time for the sport, and it’ll be a privilege to lead the programme. Let’s go.”

Millfield Swimming has supported the journey of 33 Olympians in its short history, and has had a swimmer at every Olympics since 1968 including champions like Duncan Goodhew, Mark Foster, and James Guy. Seven Millfield swimmers represented their country at the 2024 Paris Olympic games, their largest number ever, bringing home three gold medals and one silver medal. International, national and regional champions continue to emerge from Millfield year on year. This is done through the expertise of international coaches and Olympic standard facilities.
