Millfield Take the Win at Hickstead for Fifth Time

Millfield’s Junior Team have won the title at Hickstead’s Hurst College National Schools and Pony Club Jumping Championships, in the Junior Division for their fifth time in the event’s history.

The team, comprising of Millfield and Millfield Prep pupils Tara Kay on Amandas, Charlotte Manton on Tullibards Boom Groom, Hatty Kingsford on Killycloghan Classic Melody and Lily Rhys on Fond of A Drop, all jumped clear rounds of Hickstead’s All England Jumping Course. This put them into a jump-off against Seaford College for the title. The four riders jumped magnificently, again achieving faultless rounds of the course to put them in first place.

Year 10 Hatty said, “It feels really good to be a part of the winning team for our school. My mare loved the course, it was really flowing and it’s a big arena which suits her”. Hatty and her teammate Lily were both part of the victorious Millfield Junior Team at the event last year, making this their second win of the event.

Meanwhile, the Millfield Senior Team rode a thrilling final of the Senior Division to place in joint second - with Caterina White on Red, Olivia Mahony on Zamor II, Zoe Lindley-Smith on Beluga Z and Maeve O’Neill on Millfield’s Pauldary’s Cupid totalling 8 faults to tie with Wellington College.

Millfield’s second Junior Team with Bryany Smith on Toyd Camomile, Millie Stamper on Ech Na Sliabh, Tash McNee on Corscaron Cardi Llwyd and Fleur Kingsford on Ruby XXIV achieved joint fourth place with only 8 faults.

Equestrian Sport at Millfield covers not only show jumping, but also dressage, cross country, eventing and polo. The Equestrian Centre is certified to train to Fellowship level in the British Horse Society "Where to Train" register and offers training for the British Horse Society Equine Excellence Pathway in Complete Horsemanship as part of the school curriculum. 90 stables across the campuses give students the ability to bring their own horses to the school, and the state-of-the-art facilities, including both indoor and outdoor arenas, cross country schooling fences, polo pitch and an off-road canter track, give pupils the opportunity to train daily with experienced coaches.
