Millfield welcome new Pentathlon Co-ordinator

Millfield is delighted to appoint Alex Richardson as their new Pentathlon Co-ordinator.

Alex will be responsible for modern pentathlon, multi-sport and endurance running.

Alex will take up the role in September 2026, with a transition period during the summer term where he will begin meeting athletes, understanding their programmes and attending competitions. Alex knows the school well, having been part of the outstanding Strength and Conditioning team at Millfield since November 2024.

He is a UKSCA Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach and is in the final stages of completing his OCR coaching qualification. He will take the lead in shaping and guiding each Millfield athlete’s individual development programme, working closely with Millfield’s wider coaching team to ensure students receive support that is appropriate for their stage, circumstances, and aspirations.

Alex holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Exeter and a Master’s degree in Applied Strength and Conditioning Science from St Mary’s University, Twickenham. He has previously held roles at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon and Rochdale AFC.

Millfield’s Director of Sport, Irena Dzisiewska, said “Alex is perfect for the role, he knows the school inside out. He is already part of the fabric of the school and is passionate about developing the modern pentathlon athletes and guiding them to be in the best shape possible.”

Millfield pentathletes have made strong progress this academic year, with two senior athletes earning national Athlete Performance Awards and subsequent National Governing Body funding. On the Junior Pathway, five students have represented Great Britain at junior level, achieving an impressive number of medals.

Millfield has been named the number one UK school for sport for 12 out of 13 years by School Sports Magazine and has an enviable reputation for its sports coaching expertise and facilities, balanced with strong academics and the arts.
