Neil Whiskerd and John Davies host our latest online event, Millfield in the 60’s

On Wednesday 2 December, we hosted another online event, Millfield in the 60’s. The two guest speakers for the event were Historian, Neil Whiskerd, and the President of the OM Society, John Davies. Both Neil and John shared fantastic facts and memories from the 60’s at Millfield and answered questions related to the decade asked by the attendees of the webinar.

There were over 70 participants on the Zoom event, and over 400 comments, questions and memories were shared in the chat function over the course of the webinar!

Our first speaker, Neil, has worked for Millfield for over 22 years and has held various positions, including Head of History and running a boarding house. Neil is currently a Head of year for the school Sixth Form.

Neil shared some interesting facts about the 60’s and summarised it as a “a glittering decade for the school in all sorts of areas.”

Our second speaker, John, has had an illustrious career over his time at Millfield; he started as a Maths teacher and Director of PE and Sport, and is now the President of the OM Society.

John described Millfield in the 60’s as “a wonderful place, and we had some remarkably high achieving people.” At the time Rollo ‘Boss’ Meyer, the founder of Millfield, was still the Head Teacher, and John described him as “the key to all of it of course. He was truly an amazing man!”

The online event provided some interesting insights into the 60’s at Millfield, and our OMs shared some amazing memories of their years at the school. As stated by John, “it was an exceptional place in which to be taught and teach in the 1960’s!”
