Oxbridge offers for Mathematics students

Two Millfield Upper Sixth students have received offers from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge to study Mathematics.

Vilem Horak, who joined Millfield in Lower Sixth in 2019 as a boarder, has received an offer from the University of Cambridge and Max French, who has attended Millfield and Millfield Prep as a day pupil since 2009, received an offer from the University of Oxford.

Both students have taken advantage of the extracurricular maths on offer at Millfield whilst also being involved in a wide range of activities including a high level of sport.  Eighteen-year-old Vilem is currently studying for four A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics, and is a talented triathlete. Seventeen-year-old Max is undertaking four A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Spanish and Physics. Max plays hockey and represents England at World and European Championships for chess.

Oxbridge applicants from Millfield benefit from many opportunities to enhance their applications including attending talks with world-class speakers, participating in independent research projects, academic presentations to peers and critical thinking sessions as well as subject specific support for extra reading, test preparation and mock interviews. The school also runs an Oxbridge interview preparation day in collaboration with Wells Cathedral School, which is attended by several local state school pupils from Strode College, The Blue School, Sexey’s School and Bridgwater and Taunton College, giving candidates the chance to interact and collaborate with other applicants and to practise their interview skills.
