Six Former Millfield students called up for the 2025 Six Nations

Six former Millfield rugby players have been selected by their respective countries for this year’s Six Nations tournament.

Huw Jones has been selected for Scotland, while Henry Thomas will represent Wales. George Timmins has received a selection for England U20, while brothers Ioan and Steffan Emanuel have been named in the Wales U20 squad. Despite being selected into the Scotland squad, a groin injury means that Josh Bayliss has unfortunately had to withdraw from their first fixture against Italy.

Six Nations is an annual, international competition between England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The teams compete across six weeks of fierce competition, culminating with Super Saturday on 15 March 2025. Ireland were victorious in last year’s competition.

Millfield’s Director of Rugby is former Bath and England prop John Mallett. John said “The Six Nations is always an exciting time of year for any northern hemisphere rugby fan. Age old rivalries, national pride and Monday morning bragging rights are all part of the rugby sporting calendar for February and March. To be able to cheer for boys who have played for the school team heightens the excitement. The addition of the Under 20 tournament allows even greater access for spectators and our Millfield students will be watching and proudly sporting their team colours. Our best to Huw, Henry, George, Ioan and Steffan.”

There are a large number of Old Millfieldians who are playing or have played international rugby. This includes Chris Robshaw, Harlequins and former Captain for England; Jonathan Joseph, previously of Bath and England and Sir Gareth Edwards of Wales and The British and Irish Lions. Millfield became the first northern hemisphere school to be featured in the renowned documentary series ‘The Season’, which followed their boys First XV throughout their record-breaking 2022/2023 campaign, where they were crowned St. Joseph’s Festival and School’s Championship winners. The series generated more than 1 million views on social media.
