In Athletics, Millfield welcomed back its first round of competition for almost two years with the 3-event challenge. Athletes competed across a choice of events, Jasmine Tucker won the Year 9 girls event while Kayo Adeniji displayed some strong sprint scores for the Year 9 boys. Year 10 Melissa McCusker’s strong 800m performance saw her narrowly beat Maddy Beeching to first place and Year 10 boys saw Gerard McGrady take 1st place overall.
The top three in the boy’s senior category 60m were separated by just 0.3s where Matt Bailey took the win, just ahead of Harry Barton and Kamoto Kamanga-Dyrbak. The senior girls were separated by just over 100 points. In first place was Lucy Fellows who jumped an English Schools qualifier in the long jump. Finally, away from School Seb Clatworthy opened up his season with a 2m jump in the high jump which is also an English Schools qualifier time.
OM Elise Thorner competed in the prestigious Drake relays running the 3000 metre steeplechase in 9 mins and 52 seconds. This is a European U23 championships qualifier and now ranks Elise within the top 20 UK of all time. OM Jacob Clark surpassed the 5 metre barrier for the first time at Drake relays.
In Dance, Millfield Dancers were selected for Origins 2021: the U Dance South West platform. Students from Y9 to U6 created a 6 minute film 'Horizon', inspired by the land, sea and sky of the South West. The film will be included in a feature length digital dance film showcase, Origins 2021, which was screened this month. Our dancers participated in a day of workshops and Q&A sessions with professional dancers and choreographers, including OM Andrew Wright. The film is now being considered for the National Dance platform.
In Equestrian, Millfield and Millfield Prep School competed to qualify for the Eventers Challenge Championships at Hickstead in May. Both schools came away with qualifiers in all classes.
In Fencing, Year 11 Renee Nassozi Kiggundu representing Uganda at the World Junior Fencing Championships at the age of fifteen. Read the full story here.
Millfield Football hosted a series of football friendlies in preparation for their upcoming English Schools Football Association (ESFA) semi-final match. In December, Milflield Football put on a three-way fixture format with Forest Green Rovers and Exeter City. The programme reengaged with clubs across the region for another friendly event across Easter with matches against Yeovil Town Football Club, MK Dons and Loughborough University.
In Golf, Lower Sixth Alex Champion has won the Sheldon Trophy at Burnham and Berrow golf course.
In Hockey, four OMs and a current student have been selected for the Team GB Elite Development Programme (EDP). Congratulations to current student Upper Sixth Kitty Chapple and OMs: Ed Horler, Toby Reynolds-Cotterell, Stuart Rushmere, Vicki McCabe.
Millfield Boys Summer Hockey League, consisting of Millfield, Mid-Somerset Hockey Club, Yeovil and Sherborne Hockey Club and Shepton Mallet Hockey Club, began this month. Teams will play each other three times. Well done to Year 11 Francis Moore and Lower Sixth Ollie Mallet for great performances and Year 10 Charlie Morgan Hughes on his debut for the first team.

In Swimming, four OMs have been selected to compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games, congratulations to Team GB’s James Guy, Brodie Williams, Kieran Bird and Kenya’s Danilo Rosafio. This is our highest number of swimmers at an Olympic Games since 1988.
Lower Sixth Tamryn van Selm has been selected to compete in the European championships in Budapest next month.
