In Athletics, Millfield athletes kicked off the season in spectacular fashion at the Somerset Schools Combined Events Championships.
Year 11 Mimi Woodliffe impressed in the Inter Girls Heptathlon, finishing 11th overall with a personal best of 3294 points, earning the title of Somerset Schools Champion.
In the Junior Girls Pentathlon, Year 9 Olivia Greenova soared to third place with 2520 points (PB) and took the Somerset Schools Champion title.
Year 9 Emilia Harmer followed close behind, achieving sixth place with a PB of 2370 points, securing the Somerset Schools Bronze.
Millfield’s Inter and Senior Girls dominated the track at the prestigious Achilles Relays, winning all but one of the events entered. Victories came in the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, and 3x800m relays.
Hosting duties didn’t distract Millfield athletes at the Mendip Schools’ Track & Field Championships, with 80 students now selected to represent the Mendip Area at the upcoming Somerset Schools Championships on 14 June in Yeovil.
Millfield Prep and Senior athletes were out in force at the county championships. Upper Sixth Eden Robinson opened her season in style with a swift 14.2s in the 100m Hurdles, and is currently ranked third in the UK (U20 women). Lower Sixth Andre Onyekwe produced a stunning 1.99m clearance to win the High Jump and go 10th in the UK rankings (U20 men) and third on the Millfield all-time list.
Meanwhile, Upper Sixth Carys Leyshon shone at the Sussex County Championships, clocking 15.19s in the 100m Hurdles to take silver.
The ESAA Cup Round One was hosted by Millfield. In the opening round of this national team event, Millfield won both the Inter Girls and Inter Boys competition, with both teams qualified for the Regional A Final, to be held at Millfield on 11 June.
Millfield hosted the Millfield Grand Prix on Saturday 17 May, which is our biggest inter-school athletics meet of the year, where we welcomed 13 schools and over 250 athletes. With teams travelling from as far as Brentwood and Shrewsbury, the event was a true celebration of school athletics, marked by strong competition and excellent sportsmanship.
At the Millfield PB Classic (BMC) on Sunday 18 May, it was PBs galore, with Millfield athletes rising to the occasion. Standout performances came from Year 9 Josh Dines, Year 10 Ruby Bodman, Hope Lewis, Mateo Elliott, Ethan Warren-Butt, Sam Jackson, Year 11 Jasper Girven, Lower Sixth Gemma Tolputt, Chloe Johnson, Bob Gong, and Sean Clark with all students achieving a personal best. Gemma Tolputt particularly impressed, clocking 2:14.34 in the 800m, meeting the English Schools’ entry standard.
Several Millfield athletes have now reached English Schools’ qualifying marks. Upper Sixth Eden Robinson – 11.97m* (Shot Put) and 14.2s (100m Hurdles). Upper Sixth Carys Leyshon – 15.19s (100m Hurdles). Upper Sixth Lewie Jones (Javelin). Lower Sixth Andre Onyekwe – 1.99m (High Jump). Lower Sixth Lottie Quinn (1500m Steeplechase). Lower Sixth Gemma Tolputt – 2:14.34 (800m). Year 9 Olivia Greenova 11.9s (75m Hurdles) and 5.27m (Long Jump). With many more very close to qualifying marks, they will be looking to nudge themselves over the line in the upcoming championships season in June.
In Equestrian, Millfield riders competed in the British Eventing Speetley event in Derbyshire. Lower Sixth Amber Moxon competed in the BE Under 18 Open Novice, her scores were as follows: Dressage 31.3, Showjumping clear and Cross Country clear +6.8 time penalties. Overall she placed second. Year 11 Agatha Stamper competed in the Annagh Golden Dun BE 90cms Open, her scores were: Dressage 35.3, Showjumping 0 and Cross Country clear +3.3-time penalties. Overall she placed 11th.
At the British Eventing, Kelsall Hill, Cheshire (International), Lower Sixth Amber Moxon competed in the BE 90cms U18 event. Her scores were: Dressage 31.3, Showjumping clear and Cross Country 20 penalties. Overall she Placed 19th.
At the British Eventing Ascott Under Wychwood, Oxfordshire, Year 11 Agatha Stamper competed in the Annagh Golden Dun BE90 Open. Her scores were: Dressage 35.3, Showjumping clear and Cross Country clear +3.3-time penalties. Overall she placed 19th.
At the Cotswold Cup, Eventing, Moreton, Dorset, Year 10 Jack Guppy on Completely Mint finished second. He scored 27.5 in Dressage and had clears in Showjumping and Cross Country.
At British Eventing Bovington, Year 10 Elsa Weaver on Tullibards Whos Nights Cruise placed second. Lower Sixth Amber Moxon placed sixth with scores of: Dressage 35.3, Showjumping clear and Cross Country clear. In the BE 90cms, Year 11 Agatha Stamper on Annagh Golden Dunn scored: Dressage 29.5, Showjumping 4F and Cross Country clear to place 13th.
Millfield riders competed at the British Show Jumping event at Chard, Somerset in April. In the 1m, Year 10 Jimena Fernandez on In Salah D’Estel had a double clear to finish fifth. In the 105 Senior Open, Year 11 Bella Steer-Love on Jakarta Uno finished sixth. In the 1.10m, Year 11 Emili Kompus on Heliodoro had a double clear to finish ninth, Year 11 Bella Steer-Love on Jakarta Uno finished sixth. In the 1.15m Members Cup, Year 11 Emili Kompus on Heliodoro had a double clear to finish third.
Millfield returned to Chard, Somerset for the British Showjumping event in May. In the British Novice 90cms, Lower Sixth Gracie Durbin on Jerico had a double clear, placing fourth. Gracie won the 1m on Jerico with a double clear. In the 1m Open Lower Sixth Manige Deleersnyder on Jooker Black had a double clear to place fourth. Year 10 Jimena De Arquer Fernandez on In Salah D’Estel had a double clear to place sixth. In the 105 Open, Year 10 Yr 10 Vaasvi Khaitan won on Alaska LFE with a double clear. Year 10 Zoe Przedborski on Imoa D’Argent placed fourth with a double clear. In the 1.10, Year 11 Emili Kompus on Heliodoro had a double clear to place sixth. Year 10 Vaasvi Khaitan on Alaska LFE had a double clear to place eighth. In the 1.15m Members Cup, Year 11 Emili Kompus on Heliodoro had a double clear to place third, qualifying her for the British Showjumping National Championships.
The Millfield Polo team of Year 11 Victoria Meneghetti, Year 10 Finn Martin, Year 10 Aydin Iddrissu and Year 10 Archie Camm competed in the Copenhagen Cup at Guards Polo Club, Windsor. The Millfield team held Harrow School to a draw on the first day, and beat Harrow by six goals to four on the second day of the tournament. An incredible achievement for a freshly formed and young team.
Millfield Equestrian hosted a friendly Showjumping competition with Bryanston School Equestrian. Classes from 40cms to 1.20m meant that riders from Millfield and Millfield Prep School took part. The following students took part in the listed events: Year 9 Delia Behe in the 70/80cms (double clear), Gaia Srouji in the 70/80cms, Lucie Tschoepe in the 70cms/80cms, Year 10 Tilly Welch in the 80cms (double clear), Lower Sixth Diana Bulyndenko in the 80cms, Olympia Antignac in the 70/80cms (double clear), Year 9 Amelie Geuten in the 80cms, Kiya Kornthatchapong in the 80/90cms (double clears), Freya Millington in the 80/90cms, Upper Sixth Olivia O’Brien in the 80cms, Amber Chana in the 80/90cms (double clears), Year 11 Alice De Riols De Fonclare in the 90cms/1m, Year 11 Agatha Stamper in the 90cms, Year 10 Jimena De Arquer Fernandez in the 1m (double clear), Vaasvi Khaitan in the 1m (double clear), Lower Sixth Manige Deleersnyder in the 1.05m, Year 10 Zoe Przedborski in the 1.10m, Year 11 Emili Kompus in the 1.15m (double clear) and Year 11 Bella Steer-Love in the 1.15 and 1.20m.
Year 11 Isla Sully has been shortlisted by British Dressage for the Junior European Championships (U18s) for the third year in a row.
Two Millfield teams will represent the school at the upcoming NSEA 1m Elite Team Championships at Hickstead, Sussex on Monday 26 May. The two teams are: Millfield Blue – Lower Sixth Gracie Durbin, Year 11 Bella Steer-Love, Year 11 Emili Kompus and Year 10 Jimena De Arquer Fernandez. Millfield Red - Lower Sixth Manige Deleersnyder, Year 10 Zoe Przedborski and Blaire Carling.
In Fencing, Millfield students competed in the 2025 British Youth Championships. In the U18 Girls Epee, Lower Sixth Chloe Johnson was third. Upper Sixth Sebastian Forrest was third in the U18 Boys Epee. Lower Sixth Evie Colyer was sixth in the U18 Girls Foil. In the U18 Girls Sabre, Lower Sixth Maisie Searle was seventh and Year 10 Mateo Elliott was eighth.
At the Cardiff Senior Open, Lower Sixth Chloe Johnson was first in the Womens Epee, while Upper Sixth Sebastian Forrest and Lower Sixth Reuben Cawley finished in the top eight.
Year 9 Lucia Millington received international selection for GB, competing in Grodzisk, Poland.
Shapwick/Butleigh were the winners of House Fencing.
At the Lansdowne Club Mayfair Invitational, Millfield Lower Sixth Students and OMs were invited to the prestigious Lansdowne Club in London Mayfair for a series of team matches against their members fencing club. The Millfield team claimed victory on the day.
In Football, the Boy’s First Team were crowned England Schools national champions, defeating Samuel Whitbread Academy 3-2 in the ESFA Cup final held at Stoke City FC.
Lower Sixth Jacob Jackson was selected into the New Zealand Aotearoa Maori U18 2025 squad.
The Girl’s First Team became county champions, winning the county cup final 1-0 against Hayesfield Girls School.
13 Year 10 Millfield students represented Mid Somerset in the South West in this year’s Inter-District Football League. The top two teams played in the cup final, held at Devon FA, with the Mid Somerset side beating Plymouth Schools 6-2 to lift The Worrall Shield for the first time in the district's history. Many students also represented the U14 team, who narrowly lost 2-0 to Plymouth Schools.
In Golf, Millfield golfers competed in the Swifts U15 National Foursomes. The Millfield team of Team Year 9 Zane Bignell, Jack Isaacs, Tate Sinfield-Day and Oli Hopkins won 2-0 vs Sherborne. They now progress to the National U15 Finals at Royal Ashdown Forest at the end of June.
In the Swifts U18 National Foursomes, Millfield played Taunton School in the Regional Finals at Long Sutton. Millfield won 3-0 and go to the finals at the end of June at The Springs, Oxfordshire. The team was Upper Sixth William Welsh, Lower Sixth Abigail Moore, Luke Burbidge, Wills House, Year 10 Jack McMeekin and Year 9 Tate Sinfield-Day.
Lower Sixth Abigail Moore had a busy month, she was 51st in the Scottish Girls U18 Championships and competed in some of the top amateur women's 36 hole tournaments: The Comboy Trophy (39th), The Leveret (12th) and the Critchley Salver (30th).
Year 10 Bradley Lock represented Devon Boys U16.
Year 11 Toby Morris and Year 10 Jack McMeekin represented Somerset U16 Boys in a match vs Devon.
Lower Sixth Wills House, Luke Burbidge and Year 11 Joss Monachello represented Somerset U18s vs Devon U18s. Lower Sixth Wills House and Year 10 Jack McMeekin represented Somerset U18s in county match vs Wiltshire U18's where Upper Sixth William Welsh represented Wiltshire U18.
Upper Sixth William Welsh had a good result in the Fairhaven Trophy, finishing 34th.
Year 11 Ffion Lockley played in the Welsh Women's Open at Ashburnham, finishing 32nd.
In the Four Counties event, Year 11 Joss Monachello, Year 10 Jack McMeekin and Year 9 Zane Bignell represented Somerset.
In Hockey, the Boys U14A team won the England Hockey Tier 1 National Final against Repton School at Lee Valley Hockey Centre on penalty shuffles.
In Netball, the First Team Girls won the annual Rugby vs Netball match in a close game.
Year 9 Ava O ‘Neill, Ava Whitton and Year 10 Ferne Pike took part in the final Team Bath ADC tournament. Ferne was awarded Coaches Player for the season.
60 students across 11 teams attended the Netball Awards Dinner. Three athletes from each team were awarded the following prizes: Coaches Player, Players Player and Most Improved Player. Year 10 Ferne Pike won the Strength and Conditioning Award and Lower Sixth Olivia Pitt won the Player or the Year award.
The Senior First Team Netball was nominated for Team of the Year at the Millfield Brilliance dinner to recognise their successes this season. Senior Second team player Upper Sixth Abi Smart was nominated for the Sue Woods Spirit of Millfield Award. First Team Vice Captain Eden Robinson won the Athlete of the Year award.
In Outdoor Adventure, having started training back in November, the Millfield Ten Tors teams took place in the Ten Tors Event hosted by the Army on Dartmoor. Students in teams of six completed 35-, 45- and 55-mile self-supported treks across Dartmoor. Notable performances came from Sam Lumsdon, Pierre Joubert and George Monk who have now completed Ten Tors at all three distances.
Students are due to embark on their Gold DofE assessed expeditions having completed training this month. 14 students are ready to undertake a canoe expedition on the River Wye, with a large cohort of 31 students ready for their challenging journey through the mountains of Southern Eryri (Snowdonia). 26 students successfully completed their Silver DofE Expedition in Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons).
In Rowing, at the British Rowing Junior Inter Regional Regatta 26th April 2025, Year 11 Poppy Clothier and Zara Barnett were selected to row for the Southwest and Wales team, where they won silver in the WJ16 2-. The girls marked a moment in history for Millfield Rowing, winning the school’s first national age group rowing medals.
In Rugby, Four Upper Sixth players have secured contracts with professional clubs. Seva Kava and Ben Morrow have signed with Saracens, Evan Morris with Bristol Bears and Codi Purnell with Dragons.
Upper Sixth Angie Bazzoni represented Hong Kong Dragons U18s at the Sanix 7s event in Japan.
The rugby season finished with the annual rugby dinner, where 150 students attended including boys and girls from Year 9 to Upper Sixth. OM Eddie Erskine was also one of the guests as Millfield.
Rugby celebrated three departing staff who have given so much to the department over the years: Graham Williams, Neil Whiskerd and Tony Shaw.
OM Huw Jones was selected into Andy Farrell’s 2025 British and Irish Lions squad for their tour of Australia.
In Ski Racing, the Millfield Ski Racing team came first in the mixed team event at the NSSA (National Snow Sports Association) English School Indoor Ski Championships, held at the Hemel Hempstead Snow Centre. Year 9 Amelia Midgley, Nat Stringer and Ava Whitton all also achieved fantastic individual results across the championships.
The finals of the NSSA Race Leagues were held at Gloucester on Friday 25 April. The Senior Team, which was comprised of Lower Sixth Claire Von Yurt, Year 10 Alex Kim and Year 9 Amelia Midgeley, finished third.
In Swimming, Year 11 Mikayla Makwabarara represented Zimbabwe at the Africa Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, earning multiple medals, including a standout 26.60 finish in the 50m freestyle final. Year 9 Rihanna Yankey swam for Ghana, achieving a personal best in the 50m breaststroke.
Over the Easter break, 30 swimmers from Millfield Prep and Millfield Senior took part in a week long training camp to Lanzarote.
In Triathlon, Lower Sixth Erin Pritchard represented the Bahamas, helping the team secure their seventh win at the Carifta Aquatics Championship 2025.

Millfield Prep's U12 boys cricket team delivered an outstanding performance on Wednesday to win the County Cup Final against King's College Prep.
Millfield Prep pupils finished the competition season on a high at the 2025 IAPS Trampolining Finals, held at Royal Russell School.
After a successful weekend competing in the IAME British Championship at GYG in North Wales, Millfield Prep pupil Josef continued his strong form with a third place finish in Round four of the Whilton Mill Club Championship.
