In Athletics, Millfield students competed in the South West Schools’ Cross Country Championships in Exeter on Saturday 7 February; 15 students were selected by Somerset Schools’ to represent the county. Millfield students contributed strongly to all the Somerset teams, picking up two team titles and achieving several standout individual runs. The Junior Girls led the way, with Year 9 Kiki Fletcher finishing an impressive fourth and Lottie Bellamy placing 25th, as Somerset claimed first place overall. In the Senior Girls race, Somerset secured another first place overall, with Upper Sixth Eva Herbertson finishing 10th, Lower Sixth Bella Herbertson in 12th, Alex Styles in 21st and Arjumand Brittenden in 34th.

There were also podium honours in the Senior Boys event, where Upper Sixth Tom Webb ran an excellent race to finish third, supported by Lower Sixth Liam Dabadie in 25th, earning Somerset second place as a team. Well done to all students who competed: Year 11 Hope Lewis, Sam Jackson, Year 10 Ana Price-Martic, Rafael Selby, Year 9 Arthur Smith, JJ Wells and Kruze Frampton, rounded off a competitive day for Somerset at regional level.

At the England U20 Indoor Championships in Sheffield, Upper Sixth André Onyekwe won silver in High Jump clearing 1.97m & placed 5th in the Long Jump with an impressive 7.01m personal best. André has had an excellent indoor season, ranking among the UK U20 top 10 in both High Jump and Long Jump. Lower Sixth Owen Boon reached the semi-final of the 400m after clocking a 51.64 indoor personal best in the heats.

In Cricket, OM Caleb Falconer produced one of the greatest knocks ever seen on the U19 World Cup stage; a blistering 115 off just 67 balls against India. Caleb became the third ever English player to reach a hundred in an ICC World Cup final.

OM Brad Currie represented Scotland at the T20 World Cup.

In Equestrian, at the British Showjumping at Kings Sedgemoor Equestrian Centre, Year 11 Jimena De Arquer Fernandez won the 90cm Open on her new horse, Rose. Year 9 Martha Dixon won the BS Club 80cms and was second in the BS 90cm Open on her new horse, Babs.

In the National Schools Equestrian Association Elite qualifiers, held at Bicton Arena in Devon, the Millfield team of Upper Sixth Manige Deleersnyder on Jooker, Lower Sixth Bella Steer-Love on Boom, Mimi Woodlife on Jasper and Year 10 Kiya Kornthatchapong on Cartel, won the 1m Elite Qualifier and qualified for the Championships at Hickstead. Kiya Kornthatchapong was second with Cartel in the 1.10m Individual Elite qualifier, qualifying for Hickstead Main Arena in June, and the NSEA Championships at Addington in October.

Year 9 Tilly Barber and Sid won the 95cm Arena Eventing at Bicton in Devon on Saturday, coming first out of 25 riders. They had zero time penalties and clear jumping. Lower Sixth Mimi Woodliffe also won her class (1.0m).

Lower Sixth Mimi Woodliffe completed a 100km run for the Type 1 diabetes challenge in February, raising a great amount for research.

In Hockey, Lower Sixth Bella Hinde-Smith has been selected for the England U18 squad, while her younger brother Josh, in Year 10, has been selected for the England U16 squad.

In Karate, Lower Sixth Leon Hutchcroft, Year 11 Myriam Zarrad and Year 9 Lisa Frampton were all recently assessed for their next grade. They were the first students to be assessed using the new Nishikan Martial Arts curriculum. Lisa gained her yellow belt, with one of the strongest performances of the day. Leon successfully gained his green belt and Myriam moved to blue belt. All were assessed using drills, scenarios and live testing.

The Millfield squad were also invited to train at the Honbu, the headquarters of Nishikan Martial Arts in Wincanton. It was a fantastic evening, made more so by training on a brand new roll mat, installed just before classes started that day. The students made the most of their evening training with senior black belts at Nishikan and practising real world scenarios.

In Karting, Year 10 Klara Kowalczyk, launched her 2026 international season with an impressive debut in the X30 Senior category at the IAME Winter Cup in Valencia.

In Modern Pentathlon, students have been achieving fantastic performances in recent Pentathlon National Ranking Events. Congratulations to Upper Sixth Reuben Cawley, Chloe Johnson, Year 11 Mateo Elliott, Year 10 Eva Dowden, Year 9 Kruze Frampton, Kiki Fletcher, Polly Warman and Katie Green.

In Netball, Millfield are the only school in the south west to have a team qualify for regionals unbeaten for all three age groups (U14, U16, U19). The First Team qualified and placed fourth in the ISL Super Cup. The First Team also qualified for England National School Finals, after coming second at the regionals. Year 11 Gracie Tubb was selected for Northern Ireland in the Europe Netball Championships in March.

In Rugby, five former Millfield students were selected by their respective countries for this year's Six Nations. Huw Jones, Josh Bayliss and Adam Hastings were selected for Scotland, while Steffan Emanuel and Evan Morris have been selected for Wales U20s squad.

The sevens season is well underway with teams from boys and girls teams from U14-U18 representing the school in fixtures and tournaments around the UK.

Millfield hosted a Girls Sevens Tournament for a wide selection of schools from around the UK, building up to Rosslyn Park Sevens later this month.

In Ski Racing, Millfield students competed in the National Snow Schools Ski Association Race League in Gloucester. Year 10 Amelia Midgley was first in the U16 Girls event, while Year 9 Emily Hart was second and Year 10 Isabella Brittenden was third. In the U16 Boys event, Year 10 Arto Jaccoux-Ikuzawa was second and Year 11 Alex Kim was third. Upper Sixth Coco He was first in the U19 Girls event, while Lower Sixth Anisha Oberreit was second.

Year 11 Alex Kim has been selected to represent Korea at the second Korea–China–Japan Youth Winter Sports Exchange Programme, described as a mini Winter Olympics for 12-15 year olds, taking place in Hokkaido from 23–28 February 2026.

In Swimming, Millfield swimmers competed at the Luxembourg Euro Meet 2026, marking the beginning of the long course season. 40 swimmers took part with over 200 heats and finals being raced across the event.

The Millfield Swimming squad put in incredible performances across the board at the Somerset County Swimming Championships, picking up well over 200 medals collectively. From Millfield to the Mid-Atlantic: OM Rufus Lewis Takes on the World’s Toughest Row

Old Millfieldian Rufus Lewis (Walton House, 2015–2019) is preparing to take on one of the world’s most demanding endurance events: the World’s Toughest Row - Atlantic - a solo ocean row of more than 3,000 miles from San Sebastián de La Gomera to English Harbour, Antigua.

Rufus is set to race in December 2026, spending weeks at sea in a completely unsupported, self-sufficient crossing. Alone on the ocean, he will manage everything from navigation and weather to repairs, nutrition, and the mental challenge of isolation - all while rowing for up to 18 hours a day.
