In Athletics, at the Somerset Schools’ Cross Country Championships, Millfield had strong representation and podium finishes across all age groups. The Junior Girls set the tone early, led by Year 9 Kiki Fletcher who ran a superb race to claim second place. She was well supported by Lottie Bellamy, finishing sixth, and Katinka Thurstan in 15th.

In the Inter Girls race, consistency and resilience were on show as Year 10 Ana Price-Martic finished seventh, closely followed by Year 11 Hope Lewis in eighth.

The standout team performance of the day came from the Senior Girls, who dominated the front of the field. Lower Sixth Bella Herbertson led the charge with an outstanding second place finish, supported by Upper Sixth Eva Herbertson in third and Lower Sixth Alex Styles in fourth, giving the team three athletes inside the top four. Lower Sixth Arjumand Brittenden added further strength with an excellent eighth place finish.

The Junior Boys also impressed, with Year 9 Arthur Smith running strongly to secure second place. He was backed up by JJ Wells in fourth and Kruze Frampton in fifth, resulting in a very competitive team showing.

In the Inter Boys race, Year 11 Sam Jackson led the squad home in fifth place, followed closely by Year 10 Rafael Selby in seventh. Solid performances from Year 10 Josh Dines (18th), Year 11 Cello Jimenez-Rowe (21st), Year 10 Henry Mahon (32nd) and Year 11 Tim De Pree (34th) rounded out a committed team effort.

The day concluded in style with a commanding performance in the Senior Boys race. Upper Sixth Tom Webb produced a superb run to claim first place, becoming Somerset Schools’ Champion. He was well supported by Lower Sixth Liam D’Abadie (10th) and Tristan Scott (12th), completing an excellent day of racing.

Millfield athletes competed in the Welsh U20 Indoor Championships in Cardiff.

Day One: In the sprints, Lower Sixth Owen Boon secured a podium finish in the 400m, while Remy Schouten and Mikayla Makwabarara both placed sixth in the 60m finals, with Lower Sixth Mimi Woodliffe placing second in the 60m hurdles.

In the Triple Jump, Lower Sixth Holly Bunter took second place and Deacon Evans placed sixth in the Shot.

Middle-distance runners also put in notable efforts, with Upper Sixth Anubis Molina-Zekri finishing fourth in the 1500m and Gemma Tolputt earning a bronze medal in the 1500m.

400m competitors included Year 11 Josefine Ulshöefer in the U20 women, alongside Lower Sixth Araba Taylor, who reached the semi-finals, as did Alfie Charlton in the U20 men’s event. Year 11 Tasha Wheeler produced a fine PB in the 60m.

Day 2: The second day brought more excitement, with several athletes stepping onto the podium. Upper Sixth André Onyekwe dominated the High Jump, clearing an impressive 2.00m to claim first place. In the jumps, Lower Sixth Lily Jones earned third place in the Long Jump, while Year 10 Olivia Greenova finished fourth.

Middle-distance runners again performed admirably. Upper Sixth Cai Lewis finished third in the 800m, Lower Sixth Liv Morgan also earned a third place finish in the 800m with Gemma Tolputt repeating her strong showing from Saturday with fourth place in the 800m, and Upper Sixth Lottie Quinn concluded the Millfield trio with sixth place.

In sprint events, Lower Sixth Remy Schouten ran a competitive 200m to take fourth place, while Lower Sixth Mikayla Makwabarara and Araba Taylor reached the semi-finals in their respective 200m events, with Tabitha Olivier and Alfie Charlton racing in the heats of the 200m and 800m respectively.

Upper Sixth Tom Webb ran an outstanding 10k in Telford, placing 31st in a strong senior field, his 29:45 clocking earned him one of the fastest times ever recorded by a 17-year-old in Britain.

In Cricket, 13 cricketers have been selected to represent Somerset and Wiltshire in Sri Lanka over half term. Upper Sixth Dexter Trego will be traveling to Abu Dhabi with Gloucestershire.

OM Caleb Falconer was selected to represent England at the U19 Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia.

In Dance, a cast of Year 9 to Upper Sixth dancers put on an incredible rendition of Sleeping Beauty for this year's Dance Show.

In Equestrian, Millfield riders took part in the National Schools Equestrian Association qualifiers in January at Moreton Equestrian Centre, Dorset. Upper Sixth Riding Captain Manige Deleersnyder finished in individual sixth in the 1m elite qualifier. Year 11 Blaire Carling finished in individual fourth in the 1.10m elite qualifier.

At CCR Equestrian, Year 11 Jimena de Arquer Fernandez competed at a British Showjumping National Senior Show, jumping a double clear and coming in fifth place.

In Fencing, Year 9 Hadyn Koong won gold at the U17 Leartes Revenge Sabre LPJS in Stratford on Avon.

Lower Sixth Monty Price-Bailey won gold and bronze at the Welsh BYC qualifiers.

At the South West Regional Foil Championships, Millfield had four Regional Champions and a total of 13 Medallists, who have all qualified for the nationals in May.

In the U18 Boys Foil, Upper Sixth Anton Sidorov was first, while Lower Sixth Jem Hedgcock was third. In the U16 Boys Foil, Year 11 Kuzey Aydemir was first, Henry Gould was second and Jason Shi was third. In the U18 Girls Foil, Lower Sixth Dora Ji was third and Daisy Beadsworth was fifth. Upper Sixth Alice Keers was seventh and Year 11 Marabelle Lippold was eighth. In the U16 Girls Foil, Year 9 Caroline Lewis was second, while Lucy Williams was third. In the U14 Girls Foil, Year 9 Rihana Vandenberghe was fifth, while Rose Gilbert was 11th.

At the U20 EPEE Mens British Ranking Competition, Upper Sixth Reuben Cawley was 15th, Sam Miell was 24th, Year 11 Mateo Elliott was 29th, Monty Price-Bailey was 39th, Year 9 Kruze Frampton was 44th and Year 10 William Xu was 53rd.

In Football, the senior boys and girls teams enjoyed an incredible football tour in Dubai with a week of learning, teamwork, and unforgettable memories. The teams played competitive fixtures against Man City Academy UAE, Banaat FC and Empire FC under the sun with some exploring from Wild Wadi Waterpark to the desert and Marina.

In Netball, The First Team beat Sedbergh in the Sedbergh Showcase, finished fourth in the ISL Super Cup, qualified for England Schools and March and have qualified through to the quarter finals of the SnS and ISNC competitions. The Second Team also beat Sedbergh in the Sedbergh Showcase, and are through to the quarter finals of the SnS competition.

Year 11 Gracie Tubb has been selected to represent Northern Ireland U17 in the Europe Netball Championships 2026, from 6-8 March, in Scotland.

Year 9 Elsie Seager was selected for Team Bath ADC.

In Rugby, the Senior Tens Boys enjoyed a memorable trip to a wet and muddy Mount Kelly, embracing the conditions and coming away as tournament winners. The squad played with real energy and cohesion throughout the day, and a special mention goes to Lower Sixth Gabriel Middleton, who was deservedly named Player of the Tournament after a series of outstanding performances.

The Girls 7s programme continues to go from strength to strength. This month saw Millfield host Coleg y Cymoedd and Ivybridge, with around 40 girls representing the school across the U14, U16 and U18 age groups. The day highlighted the depth of talent within the programme and the growing enthusiasm for girls’ rugby across all year groups.

Our First XV were also in action at home, hosting a Welsh Academicals invitational side in a fixture that doubled as a celebration of our Upper Sixth players as they prepare to move on to the next chapter. It was a great occasion, marking their contribution to the programme and providing a competitive and fitting send-off.

The Senior First XV enjoyed a solid Spring Term, winning four of their five fixtures.

In Ski Racing, the Senior Mixed Ski Racing First team won the 2025 National Schools Outdoor Championships South. The team included Arto Jaccoux-Ikuzawa, Alex Kim and Amelia Midgley.

Year 10 Nat Stringer saw his top performances on the slopes rewarded with call ups to both the Great Britain and England national squads. Nat has been selected for both the GB U16 Alpine squad and the Snowsport England Alpine Team for the upcoming season.

In Squash, Year 9 Naomi Wiegenfeld won the Czech Junior Open U17 event, playing up an age group against the best young players from around Europe.

At the Swiss Junior Open Gold event, Upper Sixth Tamir Wiegenfeld was sixth in the U19 event, Upper Sixth Gilad Wiegenfeld was was 11th in the U19 event, Year 9 Naomi Wiegenfeld was third in the U17 event and Gabriel Martini was 18th in the U15 event.

At the US Junior Open, Tamir Wiegenfeld was ninth in the U17 event, while Naomi Wiegenfeld finished 21st-14th in the U15 event.

At the British Junior Open, Tamir Wiegenfeld was 21st in the U17 event, Gilad Wiegenfeld retired injured and Lower Sixth Shunsaku Kariyazono was 18th in the U19 event.

In Swimming, Millfield swimmers competed at the Luxembourg Euro Meet 2026, marking the beginning of the long course season. 40 swimmers took part with over 200 heats and finals being raced across the event.

In December, 75 Millfield swimmers competed at the National Arena League Southwest Finals, displaying some exceptional swimming and team spirit.

In Tennis, Upper Sixth Joshua Craze finished in sixth place out of 20 in the Cardiff UTR Pro Tennis Tour. Joshua won the singles event at the LTA Lexus British Tour National Men’s Grade 2 Edgebaston.

Year 10 Tommy Weston won the singles event at the Avenue Lawn Tennis Grade 4 competition. Tommy also claimed doubles titles at the Central and East Tour Men’s Grade 4 and the U18 Taunton TC events. In January, Tommy claimed the U18 Boys University of Bath Winter Regional Tour Grade 3 singles title.

Year 10 Zach Kleiner was runner up in the Grade 4 U18 singles event at Portsmouth Grammar School.

Lower Sixth Sofiia Vashchuk was runner up in the singles event at the U18 Taunton Tennis TC Grade 3.

Year 11 Valentina Bailey was a quarter finalist in the women’s singles at the Lexus Women’s British Tour Edgbaston Grade 2.

In Trampolining, Millfield took 16 students to the South West Trampoline Championships in December. Nine students qualified through to the Southern Zonals in January: Year 11, Daisy Ashman (2nd Advanced), Megan Boyd (4th Novice), Year 10 Viktor Kohler (3rd Elite), Arthur Craddock (1st Intermediate), Year 9 Zac Bix (2nd Advanced), Lucy Bibby (5th Advanced). Upper Sixth Goksu Sisman and Year 11 Ava Constable qualified through as team members.

At the Southern Zonals, all students bounced well, with Viktor Kohler qualifying through to the National Finals with a fifth-place finish.
