Sport Round Up - June 2026

In Cricket, Year 10 Lana G has been selected to represent the England Under-15 Girls Indoor Cricket Squad in the 2026 Junior World Series in Pretoria, South Africa.

Lana will travel to South Africa in September to compete against some of the world's leading indoor cricket nations, including Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa.

In Equestrian, Polo players Lower Sixth Victoria M, Year 11 Finn M, Archie C and Year 10 Tobias I took centre stage at the Copenhagen Cup on 9 and 10 May, although they were beaten on the Saturday, the team made a great comeback to beat Harrow with a score of 5 goals to 2.5 on the Sunday.

Showjumpers were out at several national competitions with double clears and successes. Upper Sixth Gracie D took part in a Bronze League Direct Qualifier at Dorset showground for 8f. Year 9 Martha D competed in the same qualifier at Pycombe, also for 8f. Year 10 Delia B and her new horse completed two classes at 90cm and 1m at British Showjumping Chard, while Upper Sixth Olympia A also successfully completed classes at 95cms at BS Chard and Mendip Plains. The riders have been consolidating their performances in preparation for the Hurst Team Championships at Hickstead.

Lower Sixth student Isla S has became the FEI Global Junior World Number One in dressage. Isla has also been selected for the GB Junior European Championship U18 Dressage Team, who will compete in Olomouc, Czech Republic from 13-19 July. This will be Isla’s fourth time representing the GB U18 team at the event. Isla has been on the podium at two of the past three European Championships, and has now represented GB at international events 57 times. Isla and her horse Vagabond de Massa have claimed an incredible seven international wins in the past 12 months, most recently at the Wellington International event, where she won both of her Junior International Selection classes.

In Fencing, 40 fencers qualified for the British Youth Championships in Sheffield. An amazing 30 students attended the event at the beginning of exam season, which was great opportunity to compete against the best youth fencers in the country.

In Football, Year 9 Oscar S was selected to represent the Cayman Islands.

In Golf, Year 10 Zane B has seen much success in recent weeks, finishing as runner-up in the South West U16/U14 championships with gross 71 (+1) at Bude, being selected for the Somerset men’s team for the South West Championships at Isle of Purbeck and representing Somerset U18 vs Gloucester, winning both his foursomes and singles match. He was runner-up in the Somerset Boys Championship with a score of +2 for 36 holes (74/68) at Oake Manor.

Upper Sixth Abigail M won the Somerset Girls championship at Oake Manor with gross scores 146. Her second round of gross 69 (-3) was a course record.

Year 9 Hattie Isaacs won the Dorset Ladies Nett Championship and reached the semi-finals of the handicap knockout. In the Spring Open at Burnham, she was second with 37 points.

Year 10 Jack I was fifth in the South West U14 / U16 Championships at Bude with gross 72 (+2). At the West of England U14 event at Mendip, he finished second with gross 150. He represented Somerset U18 vs Gloucestershire, halving his foursomes, but winning his singles match.

At the Burnham Spring Open, Year 10 Harvey W-J won with 38 pts. Lower Sixth Joss M and Year 10 Oliver R finished joint third with 36pts.

In the Somerset U16 match, Year 10 Nat S made his county debut vs Dorset at Weymouth and won both his foursomes and singles matches. Year 10 Alexander L and Harvey W-J also played in this match.

The Somerset U18 vs Gloucestershire match saw Lower Sixth Toby M and Year 11 Jack McMeekin play alongside Joss M, Zane B and Jack I.

Year 10 Zane W was runner-up in the Chipping Sudbury Junior Open with gross 78, with Year 10 Tapi K finishing 20th with gross 88.

In Hockey, the U15 Boys were runners-up in the Independent Schools National Cup.

U16 Boys reached the semi-final stage of the Tier 1 National cup competition.

The First XI Boys reached the quarter-final stage of the Tier 1 National Plate competition.

U14, U16 and First XI Girls teams all reached the quarter-final stage of the Tier 1 National Cup competition.

Lower Sixth Bella H-S and Year 10 Josh H-S represented England U16 and U18 squads respectively in the Easter Six Nations tournament.

Year 10 Tristan T, Emilia H and Rosie G P were selected to attend a 'first look' England Age Group Assessment.

Year 9 Charlie P represented the UK Lions at the Derby Grand Slam Indoor Tournament.

Year 9 Jess F, Tammy R, Amelia S, Amelie A and Bella L all represented Shepton Mallet at the U14 Supra League Club Finals, finishing fifth in the country.

In Rugby, the Year 9 rugby team visited Bath Rugby’s training ground, where the boys took part in a session alongside Wellington College.The day provided a fantastic and highly valuable experience for all involved. The boys were first introduced to Bath Rugby’s academy pathway system, gaining a clear understanding of how it operates and what is required to progress within it. The coaches spoke in detail about both on-field and off-field expectations, emphasising key attributes such as organisation, communication, commitment, attention to detail, intensity, and intent. This insight was particularly beneficial, as it helped the boys understand that success at higher levels of the game is driven just as much by character and mindset as it is by technical ability. Following this, the group took part in a practical training experience delivered by Bath’s academy coaches. They then moved inside to the indoor facility for a skills session, where they were coached at a very high level and exposed to professional-standard training environments and expectations.

Lower Sixth Patrick T-R and Fred S have been named as the rugby captains for next year. They will take over from Alex Y and Freddie B, whose leadership and commitment have helped drive standards forward and leave the club in a good place. Patrick said “Being named captain is an honour and a dream since joining in Year 9. I can't wait for the season to begin and I am so excited to see how we turn out in the autumn.” Fred added a “I'm excited to see what we can achieve next season, building off the great work of last year's captains.”

In Swimming, Millfield swimmers competed at the AP International London meet, reaching multiple Junior, B and A finals. Upper Sixth Megs H and Filip N both claimed a gold medal. The swimmers who competed at the meet were: Upper Sixth Sophie D, Megs H, Filip N, Lower Sixth Wilfred L, Frank L, Joshua B, Skye S, Asta M, Rebecca T and Year 10 Alice H.

Eight current students have been selected to swim for their countries at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow: Ethan S-G, Filip N, Sophie D, Megs H, Emily H, Tilly C, Riley W and Katie G.

Millfield swimmers competed at the South West Region Summer Championships, with great success. At the Mare Nostrum Monaco Leg, Year 11 Riley W reached one B final, and claimed one bronze medal.
