In Athletics, all four Millfield teams have advanced to the second round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup after strong performances in the Round 1 fixture held at Downside School on Monday 6 October. The Inter Boys team finished first, the Inter Girls team secured second place, and both the Senior Girls and Senior Boys teams claimed first in their respective categories. The next stage is the South West Regional Final which will take place at Leweston School on Saturday 8 November.

In Clay Shooting, the Millfield team of Upper Sixth Oliver Austin, Will Hutchison, Satya Singh and Lower Sixth Archie Monk won by the very narrow margin of one clay at the Rugby Schools competition. The same team were pipped at the post by Bloxham School at the Marlborough Schools competition. At the same event, the ladies team of Upper Sixth Matilda Wilkes, Year 11 Mikaela Pearson, Year 11 Peggy Swankie and Year 10 Rececca Zhao were the highest placed ladies team overall, with Peggy Swankie winning the ladies high gun.

Upper Sixth Oliver Austin has continued his impressive county, national and international journey outside of school, while prioritising his captain’s commitment to the squad.

In Cricket, Year 10 Izzy Glynn-Jones, Rosie Grant Peterkin, and Year 9 Bella Lloyd have been selected on the Somerset CCC Emerging Players Programme.

Upper Sixth Holly Batey has been selected onto the Somerset CCC Academy, joining Laila Moledina on that programme.

Year 10 Lana Gandhi has been selected onto the Middlesex CCC Emerging Players Programme.

Lower Sixth Coby Campbell has been asked to train with the Lancashire CCC Academy.

Year 10 Sam McHugh, Reuben Lewis-Jones and Year 9 Wills Jackman have been selected onto the Somerset CCC Boys Emerging Players Programme.

Upper Sixth Dexter Trego (Gloucestershire CCC), Freddie Price (Sussex CCC) and Lower Sixth Noah Lewis-Jones (Somerset CCC) are also County Academy Contracted players.

In Equestrian, Lower Sixth Isla Sully competed at the Wellington CDI event, winning both junior international dressage class. Upper Sixth Amber Moxon was the Open Novice winner at the British Eventing U18 event in Oadby, Leicestershire.

At the NSEA Championships in Addington, Buckinghamshire, Lower Sixth Max Bonney, Mimi Woodliffe, Bella Steer-Love and Year 9 Tilly Barber were 1m bronze medallists in the team final. Lower Sixth Max Bonney, Tilly Barber, Year 10 Freya Millington, and Year 10 Delia Behe became 90cms team final bronze medallists.

Year 11 Alexia Favre and Year 10 Kiya Kornthatchapong competed as individuals with double clears in the 80 and 90cms championships. Upper Sixth Gracie Durbin was a silver medallist in the 1.10m individual final.

Year 11 Livi Spooner was selected to ride for England teams over half term at the Southview Home Pony International event.

In Fencing, Year 11 Kuzey Aydemir competed in his first U17 International European cup of the season in Gothenburg, where he was selected to represent Turkey.

Upper Sixth Kaden Woname competed at his first senior level international in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he was selected to represent Ghana.

In Football, Millfield hosted the Millfield Invitational Youth Cup, which took place from Thursday 30 October to Friday 31 October and saw 12 professional academies compete alongside Millfield’s U15 and U16 Boys’ teams. Bristol Rovers were the eventual winners.

The Boys’ First XI competed in four rounds of the FA Youth Cup.

Year 11 Max Walters and Benjamin Cotton attended a U16 ISFA Camp.

Lower Sixth Reid Hagelberg, Ewan Seddon, Sari Chalfoun, Rudy Tetlow, Jack Edwarde, Teddy Clark and Benjamin Cotton attended a final selection camp for ISFA U18.

Khaled AlKhaja represented Bahrain U17.

In Golf, the Millfield team competed at the Swifts U15 National Foursomes, winning 2-0 away at Marlborough. Year 10 Zane Bignell and Zane Ward won 5/3, while Nat Stringer and Matthew Buggy won 7/6. The team also won their match against Sherborne, Millfield won 2-0. Zane Bignell and Jack Isaacs were nine up, while Zane Ward and Alexander Leonard were seven up.

Year 11 Oli Hopkins, Alexander Leonard, Nat Stringer and Year 10 Harvey Webster-Jenkins were selected for the Somerset Boys U16 squad.

Upper Wills House, Lower Sixth Joss Monachello, Toby Morris, Year 11 Jack McMeekin, Year 10 Zane Bignell, and Jack Isaacs were selected for Somerset Boys’ U18 squad.

Year 9 Hattie Isaacs was selected for Dorset Ladies’ squad.

Upper Sixth Abigail Moore was selected for the Somerset Ladies’ squad.

Year 10 Zane Ward selected for the Hampshire Boys’ U16 squad and won the Presidents Junior Open at Basingstoke.

Lower Sixth Charles Wright was selected for Yorkshire Boys’ U18 squad.

Upper Sixth Jake Servan-Smalley and Year 11 Bradley Lock were selected for the Devon Boys’ squad.

Year 10 Oliver Regniez won the Burnham and Berrow Autumn Cup.

In Hockey, Lower Sixth Bella Hinde-Smith was selected for an England U18 Hockey Camp.

The following students received England Hockey Talent Academy selections: Year 11 Tom Sclater, Grace Milligan, Alex Toghill, Livi Spooner, Lola Spooner, Year 10 Josh Hinde Smith, Tristan Thomas, Edward Parish, Seb Guthrie, Manon Glynn-Jones, Rosie Grant Peterkin and Emilia Harmer.

The Girls’ First XI have played their first three England Hockey Tier 1 league games, winning 5-0 vs Stowe School, 10-0 vs Taunton School and drew 3-3 vs Solihull School. They are also through to Round 3 of the ISHC competition after beating Warminster.

The Boys’ First XI have played their first EH Tier 1 League game, beating Dean Close 3-2.

The Girls’ U15A are through to round three of the ISHC competition after beating Dauntsey's School.

The Girls’ U14A are through to round three of England Hockey Tier 1 competition after beating King's College Taunton.

In Modern Pentathlon, Year 10 Eva Dowden, Year 9 Kiki Fletcher, Kruze Frampton and Polly Warman represented Great Britain at the U17 Olympic Hopes International competition in Poland.

In Netball, the U15 team won against Penryn the first round of the Sports Magazine Cup. The team was made up of Year 10 Arabella Djemil, Olivia Enaholo, Lili Guthrie, Zodwa Khoza, Mia Marsh, Mimi Miller, Scarlett Miller, Ava O'Neill, Libby Yablonka Clark and Year 9 Elsie Seager.

Lower Sixth Harriet Pickering, Year 11 Gracie Tubb and Ferne Pike have all been selected for the Bath Junior PDP.

Upper Sixth Eva Doubler (Wales), Olivia Doherty (Scotland) and Year 11 Gracie Tubb (Ireland) all attended international camps over half term.

The U14 team were crowned as County Champions. The team included Year 9 Dixie Cowan, Amelia Drane, Lexi De Pree, Maria Firth, Rosa Hallett, Bella Lloyd, Ava Marinopoulos, Tara McKeown, Chloe Morris, Tammy Richardson, Elsie Seager and Rose Smith.

The U16 team were also crowned as County Champions. The team included Year 11 Megan Boyd, Nell Carter, Agi Catto, Amber Jennings, Tumi Makinde, Nancy Mallett, Ava O'Neill, Ferne Pike, Georgia Taylor, Gracie Tubb and Year 10 Lili Guthrie. The team also won the first round of the cup against Clifton College.

The first team have won their first round of the cup against King’s Bruton, came second in the first round of the Independent Schools League event and third in the Worcester Invitational event. The team has included: Upper Sixth Saskia Davies, Freya Artell, Olivia Doherty, Eva Doubler, Maeve Murray, Olivia Pitt, Isabella Lofthouse, Lower Sixth Isabelle Jones, Brooke Macdonald, Caitlin Morris, Tabitha Olivier, Harriet Pickering, Araba Taylor and Sophia Shacaluga.

In Rugby, the First XV finished in second place at the St. Joseph’s Festival.

Four students represented Bath Rugby against Bristol Bears in the Prem NextGen U18: Upper Sixth Freddie Beasley, Alex Yeabsley, Sid Moore and Lower Sixth Aston Barrington-Hibbert.

In Ski Racing, at the National Schools Indoor Championships South, Year 10 Nat Stringer won gold in the U16 slalom, while Year 10 Arto Jaccoux-Ikazawa claimed bronze in the U16 slalom.

In Swimming, Millfield Swimming has had a busy start to the season, following a long and successful summer.

Over 30 athletes have been selected for varying pathways: 12 at County, eight at Regional, 10 National and three onto Elite National or World Class Funding Pathways, including for GB.

The squad also raced at the Qualifying Rounds of the ESSA Nationals, with every team qualifying into the National Finals in Birmingham. Alongside that, over 90 athletes raced at the recent C&W International Meet, with dozens of PBs and National Qualifying Times achieved.

On the International front, Lower Sixth Skye Sharples has returned with an International Medal at the (FAST) Asian Junior Games whilst representing Thailand, while Upper Sixth Ethan Stubbs-Green is soon to race at the OECS Championships for Antigua. More International Selections are due to be announced upon confirmation.

In Tennis, Year 11 Valentina Bailey was the Girls’ Singles Winner and Girls’ Doubles finalist at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) 18 and Under Ponts de Ce, France J30 tournament.

Year 10 Tommy Weston was a quarter finalist in the 14 and Under Boys’ Singles and Doubles at the LTA National Indoor Championships, Grade 1.

Upper Sixth Joshua Craze was the winner of the Mens’ singles at the LTA British Tour Newport Grade 2.

In Triathlon, Lower Sixth Bronwyn Reading was selected for the Welsh National Junior Track Team.

Upper Sixth Tom Webb has recently been selected onto British Triathlon’s Academy Gold, for those who show high potential. He also ran 67 minutes flat in his debut half marathon in Cardiff, finishing amongst senior international elite athletes.
