In Athletics, Upper Sixth Lucy-Jane Matthews won a silver medal in the 100m hurdles at the Senior British Championships whilst setting a 36-year British record, beating Sally Gunnell’s record for the U17 100m hurdles event. Read more.

Lower Sixth Sophie Hamilton threw a new personal best in Javelin of 46 metres. Sophie is now ranked number 2 in the UK in the under 17 age group in 2020.

In Cricket, 117 boys and girls have taken to the fields and nets in our official sessions and matches. It has also been great to see the Chindit Avenue houses spilling out onto Junior Field in the evenings and creating impromptu tape ball games in preparation for the 2021 Tape Ball House Cricket Festivals.

18 external fixtures have been played against the likes of Hampshire CCC, Clifton College, our Old Millfieldian Cricket Club, Somerset CCC and the SW Academy and launched the “Millfield 100”, an internal 4 team franchise tournament which enables players from Y10-12 to play alongside our Upper Sixth players and most experienced female cricketers. The Play-off Finals day is scheduled for Saturday 10th October.

Cricket MAP (Millfield Activity Programme) sessions have been held for our female players as well as an Introduction to Cricket MAP for newcomers to the game.

In Equestrian, international event rider Mel Wilder has been appointed as the new Equestrian Programme Manager. Read more.

New Equestrian Sports Programme Manager Mel Wilder joined us over the summer lockdown and managed to train, study and achieve her Performance Coach, BHSI accreditation.

Year 11 Tara Kay & Lara V competed at BE Cholmondeley Castle in the Pony Trials.  A personal best of 28 in dressage, a pole down in show jumping, left them with a score of 32, placing them 2nd in their section.

Year 11 Tara Kay & Amandas competed at Cherwell Competition Centre in their first BS 1.20 (Foxhunter) competition, placing 2nd.

Year 11 Tara Kay & Amandas qualified for the 1.20 Championships at All England Hickstead ground. A great achievement as this was only their 3rd outing at this height.

Lower Sixth Bee Monks & Ardeo Fun Size placed 2nd in the Open Novice at Cornbury House International Horse Trials.

Mel Wilder (Equestrian Performance Manager) and Scooby (Coquin Du Bidou) were back in action at Cornbury House International. They put in a sterling performance, finishing on their dressage score of 31.40 placing 14th in the CCI-S 2*. They also won the British Eventing Official Novice at Dauntsey Park Horse Trials on 3rd August.

Lower Sixth Maeve O’Neill participated in the French Equestrian Federation Grand National event at Sainte Cécile near Cluny/Macon in France. She and Baguera entered for 4 “épreuve” in the amateur competition and won all four events.

Year 11 Hatty Kingsford and Killycloghan Classic Melody finished on their dressage score to come 3rd in the BE100 Open at Pontispool on Sunday 20th September.

Year 10 Jamie Green passed the perfect manners course with Kelly Marks and has been invited back next summer by the owners of the farm to help back and start the young horses.

Lower Sixth Sofia Scriven and Rocky went to Dorset Showground to compete in the D&H National Amateur Second Rounds. They jumped two very fast clear rounds at 1.15/1.20 and won. They are now off to the National Championships at Aintree.

In Football, Millfield has appointed former Championship coach and Head of Performance and Recruitment as Director of Football. Read more.

In Golf, Year 10 Yash Gupta has become the Dubai Creek Junior Classic 2020 Champion.

Year 11 Freddie Turnell has been selected for the England U18 Regional Squad 20/21.

Year 11 Harriet Lockley competed in the South West U16 Amateur Championships at Lilley Brook Golf Club. The event was 36 holes and Harriet won with adjusted score of 137, including setting a Ladies course record of 66 in the afternoon round.

In Hockey, Upper Sixth Julia Spence and Harriet Dimdore-Miles played for ISCA hockey club who have won the England Hockey T2 U18 cup.

The boys first XI played out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Shepton Mallet Hockey Club.

In Netball, Year 10 Sarah Long has been selected for the Isle of Man National U17 squad.

In Racing, Upper Sixth Benjamin Goethe has signed for Audi for the 2020 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. Read more.

In Rugby, Upper Sixth Fraser Hart completed 1000 press ups in an hour for the M2M foundation and raised £1100.

OMs Oliver Burrows and Dan John have both signed for Exeter Chiefs for the 2020-21 season. Read more.

In Sailing, Vanja Ramm-Ericson has placed fourth in the regional sailing championships in Weymouth.

In Swimming, Millfield pupils from across the globe were able to maintain great general conditioning even though pools and leisure centres were closed.

Some students were able to compete in their home countries over lockdown including Year 11 Dimitrios Tsaliagkos who swam exceptionally well to swim personal best times back in Greece.

A number of students have been selected for their Home Nations or British Swimming pathway programmes for 2020-21, congratulations to: Lower Sixth Tamryn van Selm (British Swimming Podium Potential), Upper Sixth Anna Morgan (Scottish Senior Silver Programme), Upper Sixth Rosie Morgan (Scottish Senior Bronze Programme), Lower Sixth Evan Jones (Scottish Youth Programme), Upper Sixth Ciara Morris (Welsh Elite Development Programme), Year 11 Solomon Williams (Swim Wales National Development Programme), Year 11 Carys Graville (Swim Wales National Development 2 Programme), Year 11 Aisling Rowlands (Irish Performance Pathway Programme), Year 10 Adam Graham (Swim England Phase 2 Programme) and Year 9 Ivan Hart, Year 10 Leo Ferguson, Year 10 Ethan Payne, Year 10 Thomas Duddridge, Year 9 Adam White, Year 9 Harrison Cox, Year 9 Lauchlan Parrott, Year 10 Frankie Hatchard, Year 10 Nicole De Pree, Year 10 Lily Ulyatt, Year 9 Ella Osborne and Year 9 Nomi Ganbaatar have all been selected for the Swim England Phase 1 Programme.
