In Athletics, at the English Schools’ Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, held on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July, fifteen Millfield students represented Somerset Schools. Competing across a range of track and field disciplines, the team delivered an exceptional series of performances, achieving five top-eight finishes and collecting three medals, including two national titles.

OM Eden Robinson was crowned national champion in the Senior Girls 100m Hurdles, while Tiana Rizzo matched this success by securing the Senior Girls 100m title. In the field events, Lewie Jones also impressed with a silver medal in the Senior Boys Javelin.

There were also outstanding performances from younger athletes. Year 10 Olivia Greenova finished fourth in the Junior Girls Long Jump, and Jacob Wraithmell placed fifth in the Junior Boys High Jump. For both athletes, this was their first experience of competing at such a large-scale national event.

OM Eden Robinson represented Great Britain, finishing fifth in the Heptathlon with a personal best 5648 points at the European U20 Championships held in Tampere, Finland. Eden finished the 2025 season top of the British U20 Heptathlon rankings, equal first ranked in 100m hurdles, and third ranked in Shot Put. An outstanding season, rounding off her time at Millfield in style.

At the English Schools’ Combined Events Championships three Millfield students represented three different counties. Lower Sixth Owen Boon competed for Avon, and achieved a personal best of 5,118 points to finish fifth in the Inter Boys Octathlon. Holly Bunter represented Dorset, scoring 3,703 points to place 23rd in the Inter Girls Heptathlon. Year 10 Olivia Greenova competed for Somerset and achieved a personal best of 2,667 points to finish 13th in the Junior Girls Pentathlon.

In Clay Shooting, Upper Sixth Oliver Austin Oliver has achieved several major national and international successes in both Universal Trench and Olympic Trap. He won the British Grand Prix Junior (U21) Gold Medal in Olympic Trap, being selected for Team GB and winning the Junior Team Bronze Medal and individual sixth place at the World Championships for Universal Trench in Rome, where he was up against over 300 competitors from 17 countries, and was the second highest scoring of all the GB team, including seniors. At the English Open Universal Trap, he won the junior silver medal and became junior high gun of the 2025 selection shoots with a gold and two silver medals. He also won the Southwest Double Rise (Trap) Junior Championship and Somerset Helice (Trap) Senior Championship.

In Cricket, Upper Sixth Laila Moledina top scored with 98 not out at the recent ECB Regional Girls Festival at Loughborough, which featured the best 48 female cricketers in the country.

Upper Sixth Holly Batey took two wickets for only eight runs as her Stockport Georgians team that came out on top, to secure an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Leigh CC in the Final of the Thunder Cup at International Ground, Old Trafford.

Lower Sixth Coby Campbell captained Lancashire CCC U16s Boys to National T20 Cup Final victory by beating Surrey in the final at Loughborough University.

Somerset CCC U18s and Lancashire CCC U18s shared the National Boys U18s T20 Cup after the final was abandoned for bad weather. Recent leaver Jaden Rose (Lancashire) and Lower Sixth Noah Lewis-Jones were in the starting line ups for the respective sides.

In Equestrian, Lower Sixth Isla Sully was part of the GB Junior European Dressage Team which won a bronze medal in Le Mans, France.

In Hockey, Lower Sixth Bella Hinde-Smith was selected into the England U18 training camp.

Year 10 Josh Hinde-Smith has made it through to the last England U16 assessment.

The Girls’ First XI won their first EH Tier 1 League game vs Stowe (5-0).

The Girls U15s are comfortably through their ISHC First Round fixture vs Badminton School.

In Golf, Lower Sixth Charles Wright has continued his golfing success by becoming the Millfield champion 2025 with a gross score of 72 around the challenging links of Burnham and Berrow. This follows on from his summer successes including becoming the Gaston Club champion, Yorkshire U16 county champion, York Union U18 Championships and made his debut for the East Riding of Yorkshires Men’s Team.

Upper Sixth Abigail Moore was part of the Somerset Ladies county team who played in the National County Finals at Shelby. Abigail finished runner up in the South West Girls U18 championships, runner up in the West of England Girls’ Championship, 21st in the English’s Girls Championship and runner up in the Somerset Girls U18 Championship.

Lower Sixth Toby Morris, Year 10 Jack Isaacs, Harvey Webster-Jenkins, Alexander Leonard, Oliver Regniez and Year 9 Hattie Isaacs represented the Burnham Junior Team in the National Junior Team event at Royal North Devon. Their win qualified them for the South Regional Finals in early October.

At the annual Millfield Golf Championships at Burnham, Lower Sixth Charles Wright became champion with a gross 72, winning on a countback from Upper Sixth Wills House and Lower Sixth Joss Monachello. The girls champion was Upper Sixth Abigail Moore with a +3 gross 77. The junior champion was Year 11 Jack McMeekin with a gross 75. Upper Sixth Jake Servan-Smalley has the best nett score with 66.

Year 9 Harrison McKowen was the 18 holes winner in the Stableford Championship at Yeovil with 40 points. The 9-hole championship winner at Enmore, with 21 points, was Year 10 Piers Davison.

Year 11 Jack McMeekin was 42nd in the West of England U16 event at Minchinhampton.

Year 10 Jack Isaacs made the cut and finished tied 70th in the Reid Trophy (England U14 Championship).

Recent leaver Will Welsh won his first individual event with a score of -5, representing Iowa Western Men’s team in the Central Kansas Classic. Harriet Lockley won her first individual event on -8, representing Alabama in the Lady Paladin Invitational. Both helped their respective teams to victory.

In Modern Pentathlon, Millfield pentathletes competed at the U19 European Championships. Upper Sixth Reuben Cawley delivered an exceptional performance. With the second-best fencing score in Europe, a strong OCR, a season-best swim, and an incredible laser run, Reuben powered his way to a silver medal – an achievement that places him among Europe’s elite.

Upper Sixth Chloe Johnson also impressed with a superb all-around performance, narrowly missing the podium with a fourth-place finish. Chloe recorded the best fencing score in Europe in the process.

Recent leaver Sebastian Forrest faced a challenging final and didn’t achieve the result he had hoped for but showed determination and resilience. He now looks ahead to the new season.

At the U19 World Championships, Upper Sixth Chloe Johnson finished 13th overall. Upper Sixth Reuben Cawley had a solid competition, though the OCR phase didn’t go entirely to plan. He delivered one of the standout moments of the championships by recording the second-fastest laser run time in the world at U19. Recent leaver Sebastian Forrest started the day in great form and entered the laser run in 10th position, but unfortunately had to withdraw from the final run. 

Millfield’s younger athletes also competed in international competition this summer. Year 10 Eva Dowden, Year 9 Kiki Fletcher and Kruze Frampton joined the U19 team in Lithuania to compete in their own age category event. This was a fantastic opportunity not only to experience high-level international competition firsthand but also to support and learn from their older teammates competing at the same event.

In Netball, Upper Sixth Freya Artell and Lower Sixth Sophia Shacaluga were selected for, and represented, Gibraltar at the Netball World Youth Cup.

Year 11 Gracie Tubb was selected for Northern Ireland U17 Squad.

Upper Sixth Olivia Pitt and Isabella Lofthouse selected for the Bath U19 National Performance League Squad.

Upper Sixth Olivia Doherty was selected as a Bath U19 NPL as a training partner.

The following students have been selected for the Bath Athlete Development Centre: Lower Sixth Harriet Pickering, Olivia Grant, Isabelle Jones, Ruby Wetherill, Year 11 Nell Carter, Ferne Pike, Amber Jennings, Georgia Taylor, Gracie Tubb and Year 10 Ava O’Neill.

In Rowing, Millfield teams produced exceptional results at the British Rowing Championships, bringing home multiple medals.  

In the Women’s Club 4+, Millfield pipped the Cambridge team to win the silver medal. The team competed against university-aged crews including Cambridge, whose squad are competing for a prestigious spot in the famous Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race. The Millfield crew consisted of Lower Sixth Poppy Clothier, Lottie Godsell and Zara Barnett, and two former Millfield students Honor Gerald and Lucy Buckingham, who learnt to row at Millfield. 

Over the four-day event, 11 crews competed across multiple categories, with the team’s efforts culminating in outstanding results, including four crews reaching A Finals and multiple medal wins. 

Recent leaver Felix Merritt and Upper Sixth student George Monk achieved silver medals in the Men’s Beginner 2x category, in their first year of rowing together, competing against university teams. 

Lower Sixth Poppy Clothier and Zara Barnett reached the A Final of the WJ16 2x category and just missed out on a medal. Upper Sixth Emily Brooke and Year 11 Vienna Townsend competed in the Women’s Beginner 2x category, reaching the A Final.   

Three younger rowers, each with less than six months of rowing experience, reached the finals. Year 10 Louis Wilson, Manon Glynn-Jones and Year 9 Tabitha Buchan-Moore, all participated in the Millfield Summer Rowing Camp ahead of the Championships.

In Rugby, Upper Sixth Freddie Beasley, Alex Yeabsley and Lower Sixth Aston Barrington-Hibbert represented Bath U18 in their academy league fixtures in August, including an impressive win against Harlequins. Upper Sixth Oakley Neville also represented Bristol Bears U18 in the academy league.

Both the U18 and U15 teams have progressed to the second round of the National Cup.

The U15s hosted two competitive fixtures against Terenure College Dublin before the Exeat weekend. The fixtures were a great opportunity for the students to challenge themselves against a strong Irish school.

OM Evan Morris (2025 leaver) made his professional debut for Bristol Bears against Gloucester in the Premiership Cup.

OM Seva Kava (2025 leaver) was included in the England U20 Men’s EPS squad.

In Squash, Upper Sixth Tamir Wiegenfeld played in U19 Welsh Junior Open and finished third. Year 9 Naomi Wiegenfeld Year 9 played in U17 Welsh Junior Open and finished third.

In Swimming, Millfield students represented their respective nations at the European Junior Championships in Samorin, Slovakia. Upper Sixth Reuben Alty (Ireland) had successful swims in the heats of the 50 & 100m Freestyle, alongside a strong swim in the 4x100m Medley Relay as the freestyle leg. Recent leaver Ewan Pedersen (Norway) achieved four PBs, finished 20th in the 50 Freestyle and was part of the 4x100m Freestyle Relay team that qualified for the final. Recent leaver Toby Godsell (GB) achieved two PBs, a semi final and a final, finishing fifth in the 200m Individual Medley. Filip Nowacki (GB) had an exceptional championship, including eight PBs, three championship records, two European junior records, six British records, seven school records, gold in the 200m and 100m breaststroke, gold in the 4x100 medley relay and 4x100 mixed medley relay and silver in the 50m breaststroke.

Millfield swimmers competed in the European Youth Olympic Festival from 20-26th July in Skopje, North Macedonia. Year 11 Roc Vela Obiols (Spain) claimed four PBs, was a 200m semi-finalist and finalist, and 4x100m freestyle relay finalist. Xander Tovey (GB) achieved four PBs, was a 200m freestyle semi-finalist and finalist, and won silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

At the British National Summer Championships in Sheffield, England, Millfield Swimming had 46 qualifiers, 15 relay teams, who competed in 183 races and 45 finals. Two school records were achieved by Upper Sixth Megs Higgs and recent leaver Charlotte Hardy. Year 10 Charlie Phipps achieved five British Records.

Bronze: Year 11 Kaden Frampton and Colton Dorffeld.

OM Emily Johnson won gold at the Swim England National Summer Meet.

Year 9 Wilf Thomas won two golds and a silver at the Swim Wales National Summer Meet.

Upper Sixth Ethan Stubbs-Green (Antigua) achieved two PBs and was a finalist in the 200m Butterfly in the Junior Pan American Games from 10-14 August in Luque, Paraguay.

Upper Sixth Filip Nowacki (GB) claimed four medals, including two golds, a silver and a bronze. He claimed seven PBs in the process, six British records, three European junior records and one championship record.

Students competed in the World Junior Championships from 19-24 August in Otopeni Romania. Year 11 Tasu Mkavea (Malawi) claimed four PBs, while recent leaver Rihanna Yankey (Ghana) claimed three, and Lower Sixth Mikayla Makwabara (Zimbabwe) two.

OM Toby Godsell has been accepted into the GB National Training Centre, Bath.

Coach Aldington was selected as a Coach for GB at the EYOF Championships in Skopje, North Macedonia.

Coach Piper was selected as a Coach for GB at the European Junior and World Junior Championships.
