We are asking OM couples to share stories of how they met at Millfield. This week's couple is Dafydd (1992-94; MPS/1994-99; Butleigh) and Jan (1998-2000; Chindit) Lewis.
Dafydd was at Millfield Prep School from 1992-94, and then joined the senior school from 1994-99. Jan joined Millfield in the Lower Sixth in September 1998. They met in 1999 in the quad outside the bomb shelter. Jan had dislocated her knee cap and Dafydd kept stealing her crutches!
Dafydd went to Brunel University to study Sports Science and played at London Wasps for 4 years. Dafydd went on to play for Wales U19, U21 and Wales 7s. Jan studied Accountancy and Computer Science at Staffordshire University. They both then moved to Cambridge, where Dafydd studied Social Political Science at Cambridge University for 2 years and got 2 blues and Jan did a Masters in Computer Science. They lived in Cambridge for 8 years and then moved to the Isle of Man in 2010. Dafydd is now a Chartered Surveyor and Jan works within her family business in Pharmaceuticals.
Dafydd and Jan have been together since 12 May 1999 (the above photo is of them at the Sixth Form Ball in 1999!) and got married on the 15 July 2006 in Dublin, as Jan is originally from Ireland! There were so many of their Millfield friends who joined them on their special day; many of them having the roles of best man, ushers, bridesmaids and master of ceremonies.
They have 3 children. Cai who is 12, Hope is 10 and Fóla who is 5. Cai has just finished his first year at Millfield Prep and they plan for Hope to join next year.
We asked Dafydd and Jan what their favourite memory of Millfield was and they said ‘Our favourite memories would be playing all the various sports like rugby, squash, hockey, and athletics. Also drinking hot chocolates in the dining hall and making lifelong friends who are now considered family. We still see and keep in touch with a large group of our Millfield family who are spread all over the world’.
Thanks for sharing your story Dafydd and Jan!
