Reception (Ages 4-5)

Joining Reception is an exciting step for our younger ones. During this year children build their confidence in learning phonics and begin to develop their problem solving skills. There are also lots of opportunities to explore their creative side through painting and crafts.

Children are always welcome to borrow library books to read at home and as they progress in their phonic learning, they are introduced to reading books. Spellings follow in the summer term and they also begin to learn French.

We are so fortunate to have beautiful surroundings to explore and much of Reception’s learning is delivered outdoors and in our Forest School. There are lots of opportunities to get out and about in our local area and our trips link to the children’s interests. There is a wide range of free and specialist after school activities and Reception children can select one or two to take part in.

Communication is important to us and each child is allocated a key worker who will keep parents informed of their little one’s progress.
