Year 2 (Ages 6-7)
During this final formative year in the Pre-Prep School, children are encouraged to become increasingly independent. They enjoy their role as school monitors, looking after the younger children and being good role models for their peers.
Handwriting practice is encouraged each day and by the end of this year, most children are producing neat, cursive script. Homework is encouraged little and often, each week can include reading, spelling, number bonds and multiplication tables.
As part of the curriculum, Year 2 children take part in group violin lessons, with instruments provided. There are also opportunities to take private lessons with expert music teachers from Millfield Prep.
There are many activities that children can choose to take part in after school, including free sport, creative clubs and other specialist clubs, taking advantage of our location at the Prep School and their expert coaches.
The transition to Year 3 in the Junior Department of Millfield Prep is an exciting step. Children have the opportunity to visit beforehand, becoming familiar with the staff and surroundings. Parents also benefit from introductory meetings and the opportunity to get to know the Junior teaching staff.
