Library
Millfield Prep has a well-stocked Library of up-to-date fiction and non-fiction books, audio books, picture books, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels and dyslexia-friendly publications.
All pupils from Years 3 to 8 have library lessons each week. The Juniors’ lessons are based around reading and how to use the Library, and the Senior sessions are focused on reading and monitoring pupils' reading progress.
In addition to Library lessons, pupils can use the Library during break and lunchtimes, where they can do research, take out books or use the internet, depending on prep work requirements. Prep is held in the Library from 4-5pm for day children or boarders with late clubs.
The Library staff offer pupils help with research and fiction choices. School reading lists are available and bespoke lists can be requested by children and parents at any time. A computerised issue and enquiry system helps the children to become independent library users and Student Librarians are there to help other pupils get the most from the facilities.
Throughout the year the Library hosts various events designed to encourage a love of books and reading. In recent years we have enjoyed meeting some exciting authors including Alan Gibbons, Cliff McNish, Michael Morpurgo, Alex Scarrow, Tom Palmer and The Etherington Brothers.
