Combined Cadet Force
Millfield’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) was established in 2019 and currently has over 100 cadets. It is an Army Section aligned to the Welsh Guards and has evolved from a voluntary after-school activity to a specialised programme with a full-time School Staff Instructor (SSI).
The primary aim of the CCF is to enable students to develop individual qualities through structured, military-themed and adventurous activities. Cadets develop leadership skills, self-reliance, resourcefulness, endurance, perseverance and resilience. These personal qualities will remain of value throughout the cadets’ lives and will undoubtedly assist in the early stages of their chosen careers.
CCF is generally 1.5 hours per week as a MAP (Millfield Activity Programme) option. Typical activities conducted over the year include; weapon handling (evolving into shooting full bore military weapons); fieldcraft lessons (advancing to Night Exercises utilising Paintball Guns for a bit of realism) survival/bushcraft lessons and cooking - everyone’s favourite drill!

Millfield’s Combined Cadet Force had the honour of marching in the Cenotaph Parade on Whitehall on Remembrance Sunday, representing the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) nationally.

Upper Sixth Millfield student Sam Curwen has been awarded the role of Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant Cadet in Somerset, for this year. He will be presented with a badge and certificate by HM Lord-Lieutenant of the County of Somerset, Mrs Anne Maw at Dillington House in Ilminster this month.

Millfield School in Somerset has officially launched its Combined Cadet Force (CCF) programme partnered with St Dunstan’s School in Glastonbury with an inspection from Major General Ben Bathurst CBE.
