New Houseparents announced at Millfield Prep School

Millfield Prep School are delighted to announce the appointments of new Houseparents. The Hammond family and the Carruthers family will start their roles in September 2024 in Hollies and Champion House respectively.

Hammond Family - Hollies House

Jon and Suse Hammond will be taking up the boarding Houseparents role at Hollies House in September 2024. They have two children, Noah and Fern, who will both be joining MPS. They have spent the last three years at Saint Kentigern’s Boys’ School in New Zealand where Jon is the Head of English and Suse teaches Year 5.

They have a wealth of boarding experience having been Girls’ Houseparents at both Senior and Prep School levels, working at two schools within Dorset and Devon, spanning a period of 16 years. They are both passionate about boarding and are looking forward to joining the thriving boarding community at MPS, focusing on developing a happy, family focused boarding house over the coming years.

Jon has taught and been Head of Department for both English and Latin during his teaching career, is an ISI Inspector and completed his Masters in Educational Leadership prior to leaving for New Zealand. Suse has taught all age groups from Year 5 through to Year 13 and has taught RS and Philosophy at GCSE and A level, alongside being Head of PSHE.

Carruthers Family - Champion House

Chris and Tazmyne Carruthers will be taking on the roles as Houseparents at Champion House in September 2024. They have two children, Viola and Camillo, and are excited for the new opportunity to join the boarding community.

Chris is the Head of Drama at the school and has been the Assistant Houseparent at Edgarley Manor for the past two years. Tazmyne has worked in the Education Sector for over 10 years, most recently as an Outreach Team Lead at Plymouth University. Whilst working in Edgarley Manor, the family have been accustomed to life at Millfield Prep and know many of the boarders.

Chris and Tazmyne met on a student residential programme in 2013 and have now gone full circle working side by side again at Millfield Prep School. As a family, they enjoy adventuring, exploring new places and eating food from around the world.
