International recognition for budding Millfield Skier

A Millfield ski racer has seen his consistent top performances on the slopes rewarded with call ups to both the Great Britain and England national squads.

Year 10 Nat Stringer, from Winscombe, Somerset, has been selected for both the GB U16 Alpine squad and the Snowsport England Alpine Team for the upcoming season. His selections come off the back of a year of strong performances in international competitions from the fifteen-year-old throughout 2025, including three wins at the British Interschool Ski and British Ski Academy Championships. Nat will compete for Great Britain in Andorra at the end of January, as well as in the Longines Future Hahnenkamm Champions event in Kitzbuhel, where he will race against some of the best ski racers in Europe.

Nat said, “I am so proud to have been selected, it feels like a real reward for all the effort I have put into ski racing over the last few years.”

Nat’s training schedule sees him travel to ski camps for over 20 weeks a year, with each day on camp consisting of up to five hours training, with time in the afternoon left to catch up with his schoolwork. Nat said “I have to be organised with my studies when I am away, but I am able to communicate a lot with my teachers. Support from my teachers and the co-ordination between coaches, tutors and my house parent has been really helpful. The school’s use of technology has made it much easier to keep up with my work while I am away.”

Nat’s sporting prowess isn’t just saved for the slopes, however. Coming alongside the success of his GB selection was a call up into the Somerset Golf U16 squad.

Having turned to golf more seriously in the last couple of years, Nat has managed to balance two high level sporting commitments alongside his schooling at Millfield, with the support of school staff and coaches. Nat said “The facilities and coaching at Millfield are amazing. The help and encouragement I have been given to manage multiple sports at once has been brilliant, I even played some rugby last season on top of the golf and skiing! Basically, I don’t have lots of free time, I’m either doing schoolwork, skiing or golfing!”

Going forward, Nat hopes to win a major race for GB, aiming to be selected for the Europa Cup in the long term. On the golfing side, he is aiming to get his handicap low enough and get the required GCSE grades to get a scholarship for a US college.
