Millfield has been accredited as a Bronze Rights Respecting School with UNICEF UK, meaning that the school is recognised as a safe and inspiring place for students to learn to be responsible, active citizens.
The award uses the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as a guide for schools to embed into daily school life and recognises a school’s achievement in putting the Convention into practice within the school and beyond. It is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation.
The initiative started in 2006 and schools involved in the Award have reported a positive impact on relationships and wellbeing, leading to better learning and behaviour and improved academic standards.
Over 1.6 million children in the UK go to a Rights Respecting School and nearly 5,000 schools in the country are working through the Award.
