Millfield appoints Edward James as Head of Sixth Form

Millfield has appointed Edward James as Head of Sixth Form, beginning in January 2020.

Edward was formerly Assistant Head of Upper School at Merchant Taylors’ School, in Hertfordshire, where he contributed to the strategy and operation of an innovative Sixth Form; he was also Head of Politics at the school.

Prior to this, he taught at Pimlico Academy, a large, mixed state school, where he worked closely with students who required academic and behavioural support and guidance. Edward has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from Exeter University and Master of Science degree in Public Policy from University College London (UCL).

Edward also has experience as a boarder, having attended Canford School in Dorset where his father was a Housemaster.

Edward says: “The opportunity to lead the country’s largest independent Sixth Form is a unique and hugely exciting one. I am delighted to be joining such a progressive and successful school.”

Millfield Headmaster, Gavin Horgan, says, “We’re delighted to welcome Edward to Millfield, where his experience with innovation and academic success will be put to good use. Millfield‘s diversity means that pupils will routinely move on to all areas of further education and vocational routes, whether Ivy League or moving into business, and Edward’s role is to ensure the best outcomes for all.”
