Millfield athlete competing for Great Britain at the Loughborough Internationals

Millfield athlete Lucy Chalmers has been selected to represent Great Britain U20 at the Loughborough International Athletics meet this weekend.

Lower Sixth student Lucy will compete for the first time at the annual event which sees a team of junior athletes take on senior competitors from Team GB, England, Scotland, Wales and Loughborough University. Lucy is the sole representative for Team GB Under 20s category in the 400m hurdles, after becoming the fastest junior athlete for the event this season.

The seventeen year old hurdler will follow in the footsteps of Old Millfieldian and Olympian Jazmin Sawyers (British Track and Field Athlete) who competed at the Loughborough Internationals during her time at Millfield. She has gone on to achieve international success in her athletics careers.

Lucy has been a boarder at Millfield since Year 9 and is currently studying A levels in History, Psychology and PE. She hopes to study Law or Psychology at university whilst pursing a career in athletics.

Millfield’s Director of Athletics, Alan Richardson says, “There is no greater honour than competing for your country in athletics and to have achieved this so young is a major reward for Lucy. She has worked tremendously hard and to be rewarded with this selection is recognition of her ability and effort. She is only two races into her 400m hurdles career so this is an even greater achievement. We are excited to watch what is to come from Lucy.”
