Millfield Entrepreneurs win National Business Challenge awards

Millfield BTEC Enterprise students have won three National Flash Challenge awards, run by the Peter Jones Academy. The Peter Jones Enterprise Academy (PJEA) is a flagship programme for schools and colleges which offer a number of Flash Challenges in association with PJEA partners.

A group of Year 10 students took part in the nationwide competition which saw them win three of the six National Level Two Flash Challenges. Each group has won £120 worth of vouchers.

Isabella James and Fred Osborne won the ‘PR to Go Far’ challenge, impressing the judging panel with their plan to showcase and provide exposure for talented musicians through a remote live lounge concert, showing a high degree of creativity given the complexity of hosting events with the ongoing pandemic.

Millfield’s second winning group saw Harry Beasley, Fred Osborne and Ellie Mackaness succeed in their challenge to conduct a PEST analysis for the online food retailer Planet Organic. The group impressed with their breadth and depth of research, identifying some key market threats and opportunities.

The third winning team won the ‘Bridge the Gap’ award, requiring students to think of innovative ways for Chelsea Football Club to utilise their stadium and facilities during non-match days. Millfield’s winning team William Thomas, Isabella James, Chloe Kendell and Felipe Simoes Freitas came up with ideas such as a sports orientated summer school and also to use the stadium as a mass vaccination centre.

BTEC Enterprise teacher, Robin Wood said, “The students showed great maturity and they displayed an extremely high level of work all round. They should all feel incredibly proud of their creative submissions.”

Millfield Business recently saw Sixth Former Ailbe Bartlett awarded the Highly Commended Prize after reaching the final of the Peter Jones Foundation National Entrepreneur of the Year competition. Dragons’ Den star Peter Jones mentored Ailbe himself and receiving £1000 for his business endeavours.
