Millfield hockey win the Smile Independent Schools Cup

Millfield hockey senior girls team have won the Smile Independent Schools Cup.

The girls first team, consisting of players across the year groups, overcame quality opposition to take home the trophy earlier this month where they competed at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, home of Team GB and the London 2012 Olympics.

Millfield hockey has an exceptional record, this being the fourth time they have won the title in the last seven years.

Director of hockey, Reggie Keates, said, “The players value the Independent Schools Hockey Cup (ISHC) highly and they should be very proud of their achievement. They had to overcome some formidable opposition along the way, playing a great brand of hockey.”

Hockey at Millfield is thriving. Upper Sixth hockey player Ollie Mallett has been selected for the England national age-group boys U18 hockey squad. Lower Sixth Anna Edwards is currently in England’s U18 side and Upper Sixth India-Rose Owen is in the current, U23 Welsh squad. They follow in the footsteps of Old Millfieldians Ben Hooper, Vicky McCabe, Becky Manton and Kitty Chapple who have been selected for England Hockey’s GB Elite Development Programme (EDP) for this year.
