Millfield host virtual careers talk with Exeter Chiefs Rugby star

Millfield Careers welcomed professional Exeter Chiefs rugby player and business owner of No. 1 Cubs Coffee and Clothing, Billy Keast for a virtual talk via Microsoft Teams.

Billy talked in depth about his journey into professional rugby, starting in the U16 squad in Cornwall all the way through to starting in the Exeter Chiefs Academy before making the Senior side. He spoke to the students about the different skills he learnt at each age of his playing career and how each club, in turn, got him into playing professional rugby.

As with many professional sports, Billy talked honestly about understanding the need to think ahead to the future, post playing rugby. Along with a colleague, Billy set up a No. 1 Cubs a Cornish Clothing and Coffee company, with two permanent sites in Charlestown and Watergate in Cornwall. The business gives Billy security for life after rugby and gives him something to take ownership of. The students learnt valuable lessons of resilience and continuing to pursue your goals, even when you encounter setbacks.

The talk ended with a Q&A session with students asking questions about both rugby and his new business.
