Millfield Photography students speak to professional photographer Lottie Davies

Millfield Photography students welcomed professional photographer Lottie Davies via Microsoft Teams to hear a talk about her journey as a photographer, the ups and downs of the job and some of her past projects. Lottie’s work is a fragrant mix of surreal set up scenes to more commercial and brand photography.

Throughout the lesson, members of the class had the opportunity to present their recent work from their current photographic project to Lottie. The group talked through their processes and intentions and gained insight from Lottie’s experience in the industry.

Lottie seemed to intuitively understand the meaning and the idea behind all of the students’ varied types of work, perhaps a skill acquired through shooting in various different styles and tackling different concepts. She commented on their work and asked questions about concept, technical aspects and even page layout. From there, Lottie provided some suggestions and ideas for moving forward with projects and photography in general.

Upper Sixth Photography student, Harriet, says, “Personally, she provided me with several different photographers and artist names for inspiration that she felt would be of interest to me and really complimented my work. She sought out the strengths in people’s outcomes and made suggestions that played to our skills. For me, this was her encouraging me to get personal with my subjects ask lots of questions and create a relationship for my portraits.”
