Millfield Prep Enjoy World Book Day Online

Being away from campus did not deter the pupils of Millfield Prep from taking part in World Book Day 2021. A full programme was provided for the whole school, with fun activities, competitions, lessons and challenges taking place all through the day.

The day began, as is tradition, with the costume judging. Some amazing costumes were created by pupils of characters from their favourite books, from the ever-popular Where's Wally and Harry Potter, to Agatha Christie and Jaqueline Wilson novels. This was followed by a World Book Day assembly, which included teacher interviews about reading and their favourite books, and recommendations on what to read next.

Groups then took part in workshops about the non-fiction techniques needed to create their own books, tutorials on illustration and pupils also had time to work on their own ‘How To’ books, which ranged from How To Survive a Shark Attack to How To Be a Super Speedy Swimmer.

Everyone took part in themed World Book Day workouts courtesy of the PE Department, who delivered on creativity as well as physical activity. Year 8 had a Treasure Island theme, Year 7 tried some record-breaking Secret Agent stunts, Year 6 stuck to a Stickman regime and the Juniors’ Harry Potter workout was magical.

There were also opportunities throughout the day to listen to teachers reading and at lunchtime there was a flurry of den building for the Design a Reading Den competition. The day culminated in pupils sharing their hard work in their Group Tutors and then settling down for Mrs Kitto’s Meditation on Books.

What an amazing day to celebrate the brilliance of books.
