Millfield student scores in top 1% of UK in Bebras Computing Challenge

Millfield Year 9 student Alex H has scored in the top 1% nationally in the 2020 Bebras Challenge in computational thinking.

This annual competition presents students with a series of problems to solve using concepts such as logic, abstraction, pattern-matching, decomposition, and algorithmic thinking.

All Year 9 students had the opportunity to take the challenge in the Intermediate category. Other high scores came from Nidal S, Jamie F, Wakundo D and Rupert M.

The Year 10 computer scientists took part in the Senior category, with Emery T achieving the highest score, which was in the top 5% nationally.

The best scores in the Elite category for Sixth Formers came from Barney F and Boris F.

The top achieving students in the four oldest age groups will be invited to attend a final round and celebration in the new year. This will take place in Hertford College and the Department of Computer Science at Oxford University. The top 10% of students in these age groups will also be invited to enter the TCS Oxford Computing Challenge in March.
