Millfield Upper Sixth history students speak to Holocaust survivor Eve Kugler BEM

Millfield Upper Sixth students studying History heard from Holocaust survivor Eve Kugler BEM to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2021.

Born in Germany in 1931, Eve was seven when the horrors of Kristallnacht took place. The family home was ransacked, and her father, a Jewish businessman, was sent to a concentration camp. Together with her younger sister, Eve eventually travelled to America, via Kindertransport, to escape the atrocities of Nazi rule. In America, Eve lived in three foster homes, waiting for her family to reunite. Remarkably, both of her parents survived concentration camps, and arrived with her younger sister in New York in 1946, one of very few nuclear families to survive the Holocaust.

Students at Millfield can study A level History as well as iGCSE history. The department comprises of ten highly experienced teachers who possess an infectious enthusiasm for history. Many of them have examining experience and some have had their work published in academic journals.

Alongside classroom study, students regularly get closer to history through a range of extra-curricular activities. Among the highlights is the annual Sixth Form Millfield History conference, which attracts a number of leading historians to speak to our students on a range of topics, as well as a number of trips to locations of historical relevance, including the battlefields of Northern France.
