Millfield’s Camerata honour key workers with Lion King tribute for Somerset Day

Millfield’s premiere chamber choir, Camerata, joined together with talented musicians from Somerset Sinfonia to pay tribute to key workers during the coronavirus outbreak with a heart-warming rendition of Tim Rice and Elton John’s Lion King classic ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’.

The performance was part of their virtual music concert series on Millfield’s YouTube Channel.

Millfield Vocalists from all over the world prepared the performance from their homes, recording it and publishing it on social media to thousands of viewers during the annual Somerset Day celebrations. Millfield Director of Music Matthew Cook and Camerata member Harvey were interviewed in BBC Radio Somerset in the run up to the performance.

Millfield Musicians have had the opportunity to continue their rigorous music programme from their homes during the coronavirus outbreak, which has meant students all over the world are forced to stay in their homes. A bespoke online music programme has been produced by Matthew Cook and his team, which features a number of virtual concerts on Millfield’s YouTube channel, including Johnson Sessions, two virtual Spring Soirees, and the ever-popular Leavers’ Recital. Students have also taken part in an exclusive Millfield Q&A session with former Millfield Musician and world-renowned violinist, Anna Im. Anna spoke to students about her Millfield experience, as well as how the school helped her to pursue a career as a professional musician. Anna also shared three exceptional performances, playing Sibelius, Mozart and Clara Schumann.
