OM Milly Tanner wins silver medal at the European Track Cycling Championships

OM Milly Tanner (2013-2017; Martins) has just won a silver medal at the UEC European Track Cycling Championships in Plovdiv, as part of The Great Britain Cycling Team.

The European Track Cycling Championships are a set of elite level competition events, this year starting on the 11th of November in Bulgaria. Milly and her trio made up the women's team sprint which was, incidentally, the first ever three-woman team sprint. Milly and her team achieved an astounding time of 48.531, earning them the silver medal, closely behind Russia, who took the gold with a time of 46.852.

Whilst at Millfield, Milly was offered a six-month confirmation programme with British Cycling through #DiscoverYourGold. This was a talent identification programme designed to find potential future Olympians and Paralympians. Although she entered as a swimmer, Milly soon found a talent for cycling and moved into this. She poses an inspirational figure to other young athletes who have the opportunities to develop their skills through the facilities and support available here at Millfield.

After securing the silver medal in Bulgaria, Milly posted an Instagram photo with her team proudly wearing their medals, with the caption: “UNBELIEVABLE. Thank you to everyone for your support, means absolutely everything.”

Milly says, “It feels incredible to win a European Silver medal. All throughout lockdown I just kept thinking about being prepared and ready to race again whenever that would be. And I’m over the moon to see the hard work paid off and especially at my first Elite Europeans, it feels amazing! I’m so excited for us sprint girls to develop and see what we can achieve as a team!”

A huge congratulations to Milly for this incredible achievement!
