OM Sarah Stirk has become the face of Sky Sports Golf

OM Sarah Stirk (1994-1996; Warner) has become the face of Sky Sports Golf as one of their main journalists, and a bright talent in television broadcasting. She is one of the network’s most valuable presenters as a result of her professionalism and expertise.

After leaving Millfield in 1996, Sarah began her career as a journalist for MUTV and moved on to work for the BBC and Setanta, before starting at Sky Sports in 2012 which has seen her career take off. She has interviewed some of the world’s most renowned and successful golfers and writes for sports publications, including Golf News, The Mirror and The Telegraph.

Sarah always has been an avid sportswoman herself - her interests included tennis, squash and golf whilst she was at school. During her time at Millfield she discovered a real love of tennis in particular and became keen to pursue a tennis-related career. However, due to an injury, these aspirations had to be abandoned. Sarah did not let this hold her back and was instead drawn to sports journalism, which she studied at Loughborough University.

A topic that is close to Sarah’s heart and is incredibly encouraging to all our Millfield students, is the growth in the coverage of women’s golf. Sarah highlights the importance of motivating young girls to aspire to sport-related presenting and journalism, as golf has traditionally been a male-dominated sports sector.

She says, “a lot comes down to role models for young girls who need to see people they want to aspire to on the TV, in magazines and in newspapers, and that means there is an interest there to inspire a new generation of young stars.”
