In athletics, Lower Sixth Lucy-Jane M has been selected for the British Athletics Olympic & Paralympic Futures programme for 2020. She is one of only 46 National athletes that have been selected for this opportunity. Read more.

The Millfield athletics team travelled to Wales to compete in the Cardiff Metropolitan University Non-Thomas Open where 14 students competed in the 60m with 11 of those achieving personal bests. Notably, Year 13 Lucy S dipped under the 8 second mark for the first time with a 7.93s clocking. There were PB’s in the 60m for Upper Sixth Joe C (7.06), Lower Sixth Jami S (7.22), Upper Sixth Damilola A (7.45), Year 11 Harry Barton (7.60), Upper Sixth Kiera B (8.35), Lower Sixth Harriet T (8.35), Lower Sixth Abbie L (8.39), Year 11 Lucy C (8.40), Upper Sixth Anya H (8.40), Lower Sixth Ellie B (8.58), Upper Sixth Amy H (8.63) and Year 11 Kai S (8.95).

In the field, Lower Sixth Seb C leapt to a new personal best of 1.95m in the high jump. Debutant Lower Sixth Harriet T recorded a new personal best in the 400m of 60.74 seconds.

Lower Sixth Seb C won the senior Welsh indoor High Jump title with a new personal best of 2.02 metres.

The team travelled to Wales for the Welsh Senior Championships on Saturday 26th January.

Our Badminton students attended an EPQ talk on the physics of Badminton last week.

In cricket, Year 9 Dominic K has joined St Stithians College as part of the exchange link with Millfield Cricket. Millfield Cricket and St Stithians College (Johannesburg) have entered into a cricket exchange where boys travel to study and play cricket in another country for 6-8 weeks. Dominic played his first two matches for St Stithians U15s in their weekend fixtures vs Grey Kollege Bloemfontein taking wickets in both games. Billy joined Millfield from St Stithians College in the 2019 Summer Term as part of the exchange.

OMs Sam Young, Kasey Aldridge and Lewis Goldsworthy have all been selected by England to partake in the ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa. England’s other group games come against Australia and Nigeria, the final is held on 9 February.

The new state of the art Cricket and Golf centres are now open. The £2.6m centres are fully equipped with world-leading technology including through-motion tracking and simulation software. These facilities are already being put to good use by the students and will be launched in late Spring. Read more.

In cross country, 17 students from Year 9 to Upper Sixth have qualified for the Somerset team in the South West Championships. At the county race, Upper Sixth Millie W was Senior Girl champion, Year 9 Jack H came second in the Junior Boy category and Year 10 Daisy P was second in the Intermediate Girls race.

The South West Championships is held at Bournemouth on 8 February. Our Millfield students are racing to gain a place in the nationals team for Somerset.

In cycling, OMs Milly Tanner and Lauren Bell took part in the UK Track Cycling Championships. Milly came home with a gold and silver medal whilst Lauren came home with two golds and two bronze medals.

Millfield Dance welcomed Motionhouse Dance Company for a performance of ‘Gravity’ along with a workshop for the students to practise their movement style and repertoire. The afternoon encouraged students to develop their creative risk taking and performance skills.

In fencing, Year 10 Lauren has qualified to compete with the National Malaysian fencing team at the Asian Championships in February and hopefully the World Championships in March.

Year 9 Maisie Everett has been selected for the 2020 U14 England Fencing Squad. She travelled to Espoo in Finland earlier this month to compete in the Espoo Challenge.

In football, Lower Sixth Cameron P was selected for the England Schools U18 National team.

Lower Sixth Millie Q and Gia S represented U18 ISFA national team in a match at St George’s Park in December with Millie scoring the equalising goal to level the score to 2-2. Both have been selected for the team playing in Edinburgh on Saturday 1st February.

Year 13 Toby M, Rafael P, and Ben J represented the ISFA national U18 team. Year 11 Clarissa J and Year 10 Lauren P represented ISFA national U16 team. Year 10 Arthur S represented ISFA national U15 team.

Millfield girls’ 1st team are in to the fourth round of the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) U18s School Trophy. They played Poole High School at home on Monday 27 January to a packed crowd on the Sir Gareth Edwards Pitch and won the game 8-1. Watch the game here.

Year 10 Lauren P has been selected to attend England Women’s U16 training camp at St George’s Park from 15 – 16 February.

In golf, Upper Sixth Mimi R represented England Women in the South America Amateur Championship in Chile finishing in 13th position.

The ISGA v Truro was played at the start of December at Bude Golf Club, Cornwall. The Millfield team of Year 10 Harriet L, Year 12 Tom G and Year 10 Freddie T played excellent golf and came home the winners, 3 matches to 0. The regional finals will be played against Kings College, Taunton.

In hockey, 20 players took part in the Super National Indoor Club Finals from 18-19 January.

Lower Sixth Kitty C & Julia S have both attended England training camps this month.

Millfield girls’ U18s reached the semi-finals of the National Indoor Super 6s competition hosted by England Hockey, narrowly missing out on a place in the final with the match ending with sudden death penalty flicks.

The girls’ U16s competed in the Super 6s indoor competition, missing out on a place in the semi-finals but displayed an impressive level of hockey and sportsmanship.

Boys U18s first team took part in the National Finals at Whitgift School and were led brilliantly by Ben on and off the court.

In Netball, Lower Sixth Ella P has been selected for the Wales Senior National Squad for 2020. Lower Sixth Catrin R has been selected for the Wales U21 National Squad for 2020.

The U16s were crowned regional champions after beating Canford in the finals.

The U19s have progressed to the quarter finals of the Independent Schools Netball Cup beating Epsom College in the 5th round.

In pentathlon, Millfield’s coach Antonia Cord has been selected as part of the prestigious Performance Foundation Coach Support programme.

In rugby, Upper Sixth Dan John has been selected for Wales U20 Six Nations squad.

In skiing, brothers Year 9 Harry and Year 10 George B competed for Great Britain in the Anglo Scottish Ski Champs in Pila, Italy over Christmas in the U14 and U16 age groups, respectively. Harry finished 3rd Place in the Slalom, 4th in the Giant Slalom and 3rd in the Super G.

Harry represented Team GB at the International Trofeu Borrufa ski races in Andorra this week. He placed third in the first of his speed races and came first in the main super G race. Team GB came third overall.

In squash, Year 9 Amelie H finished 10th in the U15 Girls’ category at the British Junior Open.

Three pupils played in the Czech Junior Open from 16-19th January. Year 11 Lawrence M placed 13th in U13 boys, Year 9 Ayaan V placed 9th in U15 boys and Lower Sixth Nic B placed 41st inU17 boys. This was a super series event with 35 nations taking part.

In swimming, 34 Millfield Pupils headed to Sheffield for the Swim England Winter Championships from 5-8 December. Millfield won 19 medals (9 x Gold, 3 x Silver, 6 x Bronze). Congratulations to Upper Sixth Sophia W and Jessica P and Lower Sixth William E, Anna M, Ciara M and Rosie M on their medal haul.

Three Millfield pupils competed in Edinburgh at the Scottish National Short Course Championships from the 13 – 15 December. Year 11 Evan J won gold in the Junior 50m Butterfly.

On the 14th December Millfield qualified for the 23rd year in a row to the National League A final to be held in Cardiff on 8 March

27 Millfield pupils took part in the Geneva International 17 - 19 January. Millfield had 52 finalists, 19 medallists and won top club.

On day 1 of the Somerset County Championships (18 - 19 January), Millfield had 103 swimmers, entered 56 teams, won 31 medals and 6 titles.

Upper Sixth Ioan E has been selected as part of the Swim Wales Senior Squad to the compete and train in Fort Lauderdale from the Jan 23 - Feb 7.

Upper Sixth Rachel A, Sophia Wilson and Lower Sixth William E & Joseph Deighan have all been selected to represent England in France at the Golden Tour event in Nice.

Currently 31 Millfield swimmers have qualified for Olympic Trials to be held in the London from the 14 - 19 of April.

Millfield’s lead swimming coach Rachel Aldington has been selected as part of the prestigious Performance Foundation Coach Support programme.

In tennis, our boys’ teams both placed 3rd in the national finals of the Year 7 & 8 and Year 9 & 10s schools event in Bolton in December.
