In athletics, congratulations to Upper Sixth Harry Barton who has signed with Youngstown State University Track and Field programme for 2022-23.

Year 9 Zoe Allen has competed at the Southern England Athletics Championships. She competed in the U15 girls 200m, 300m and shot put, achieving a silver medal in the shot put, throwing 10.11m.

Four students competed at various competitions in London and Cardiff. Upper Sixth Harry Barton ran the 60m hurdles in Cardiff winning his race in 8.02 seconds to put him joint second in the UK rankings, just 0.01 seconds off first.

Lower Sixth Ella Wintle also ran in Cardiff opening her season in the 400m. A strong performance in her first race of the season placed her inside the top 20 in the UK.

Upper Sixth Lucy Chalmers also ran in the 400m with a strong performance placing her eightieth in the UK. A fantastic start for the two 400m training partners.

Lower Sixth Lucy Fellows jumped 1.60m in the high jump with a confident and assured display placing her 11th in the country.

In biathlon, Year 10 Jamie Bedford has been selected for the British Modern Biathlon Championships.

In cross country, Millfield hosted a Mixed Team vs Mendip Area Championships. Nine Mendip schools attended with over 150 students competing. Millfield had 22 runners who all qualified for the County Championships, the senior girls were particularly strong.

Year 9 Annabelle Suffield was the Mendip Area Junior Girl Champion with Macey Burge placing second, Year 9 Charlie Roebuck was the Junior Boys Champion with Tom Webb finishing second. Year 11 Iris Courtney, Melissa McCusker and Year 10 Hollie Tapin finished second, third and fourth respectively in the Intermediate Girls. Year 11 Jack Harvey and Matthew Davis finished second and third in the Intermediate Boys. Lower Sixth Freya Buglass came first in the Senior Girls with Upper Sixth Juliette Janne D’Othee finishing second, Lower Sixth Jasmine Caley finishing third and Lower Sixth Ruby Barker finishing fourth. Lower Sixth Elliot Gladwell came first in the Senior Boys category.

Millfield took 21 students to the Somerset County Championships at Baracroft Hall.

Freya Buglass won the Senior Girls race. Annabelle Suffield came third in the Junior Girls race. Tom Webb placed second and Charlie Roebuck came third in the Junior Boys race. Iris Courtney came second in the Intermediate Girls race.

15 students qualified directly into the Somerset Team for the South West Championships in Wiltshire. Millfield triathletes have raced well this year and have made a large part of the County Team.

In cricket, OMs Dominic Kelly and Joseph Eckland have been selected into the Hampshire Cricket Academy for 2022.

Gloucestershire and England Cricketer David Payne trained at Millfield’s Indoor Centre ahead of England’s T20 series in the Caribbean. Watch more here.

In equestrian, 1m team of Harriet, Billy and Rupert qualified for the NSEA EC Championships at Hickstead in May 2022.

Year 10 Harriet Blair qualified for the NSEA Jumping with Style Championships, placing second in the 90cm and third in the 1m class.

Clear rounds at BS Chard for Kristina, Kaja and Sienna.

Great results from NSEA Eventers Challenge at Bicton. Rupert, Josh, Hatty and Harriet placed third as a team. In 1m, Isla, Hatty, Josh and Harriet placed first as a team, qualifying for NSEA EC Championships at Hickstead.

In fencing, Lower Sixth Umar Badroel Rizwan achieved a bronze medal at the U17 Malaysian rankings, helping his selection process for the 2022 Asian Championships.

Year 11 Maisie Everett, Haleena Callaghan and Lower Sixth Sabrina Jones have been selected for the GB U17 Epee Squad for European competition in Bratislava.

Lower Sixth Lauren Tang, Year 11 Patrick Jackson, Isaac Searle, Sabrina Jones, Year 11 Maisie Everett, Haleena Callaghan have been selected to represent the South West Region at the Cadet Winton Team Fencing Event.

Millfield is hosting the annual Cadet Winton U17 Inter-Regional Fencing Competition. Teams from across the country compete in all three weapons. The three-day event celebrates the life of Sir Nicolas Winton. Good luck to Millfield fencers on the South West team.

Upper Sixth Kelsey Woname and brother Year 9 Kaden Woname have been selected to represent Ghana at the African Championships in February.

OMs Jacob Mitchell and David Williams selected to represent GB at the Fencing European Championships.

In football, Millfield 1st XI won their English Schools Football Assocation (ESFA) cup match against Hartpury College. The match ended 4-4 with Millfield winning 5-4 in penalties. They are now into the last 16 of the competition.

The girls team are into the semi-finals of the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) cup after a 3-1 win against Ardingly away. The girls are also into the ESFA fifth round after a win last week.

Millfield students have been selected for the national Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) teams. Eleven players have been recognised within their respective age groups. Read more here.

In golf, congratulations to Upper Sixth Gracie Mayo who has signed with University of Oklahoma on a golf scholarship.

Lower Sixth Sophie Sharp has been attending squad training in Ireland.

In hockey, congratulations to Tottie Taylor who has signed with Stanford on a field hockey scholarship.

First team captain Ollie Mallet has made the England final for National Age Group (NAG) Boys U18 squad. Read more here.

Lower Sixth Anna Edwards has gained a place in the England U18 Girls squad.

Anna Edwards and Upper Sixth Lottie Wakeham-Dawson attended a GB Hockey Elite Development Programme (U23) trial.

Boys U16 team are through to round three of the England Hockey Tier 1 National Cup.

Boys 1st team competed against Dean Close, drawing 0-0.

Girls 1st team played against Taunton Vale Hockey Club, winning 4-0.

Girls 1st team will be competing in finals day for the inspiresport Independent Schools Hockey Cup on 7 February.

In netball, Upper Sixth Bella Valeur Adu and Amirah Weightman-Dauda have been selected into the Team Bath U19 NPL squad. Lower Sixth Izzy Mackenzie has been selected into the U17 NPL squad and Lower Sixth Poppy Sawyer has been selected into the U18 squad. Read more here.

Millfield first team played Team Bath U17 NPL squad for the first game of 2022.

Director of Netball Jenna Adamson coached Wales as their Assistant Coach for their International Test Series, the last ranking games ahead of the Commonwealth Games in July.

In racing, Lower Sixth Oliver Goethe has won the GT4 class on 24H race debut with Dragon Racing.

In rugby, congratulations to Upper Sixth Tom Williams who is heading to the University of Mary Washington on an academic and rugby scholarship.

Upper Sixth Max Pearce and Sam Harris co-captained Bath academy for the first time for their match against Exeter Chiefs, played at Marlborough College.

Our senior boys have been in action for U18 academy games, with a number of students involved with Bath including: Sam Harris, Eddie Erskine, Archie McKibben, Max Pearce, Ellis Baker, Eric Nixon Castillo, Ieuan Davies, George Timmins, Max Jenkins, Tom Howlett, Harry Carson, Kamoto Kamanga-Drybak and Sam Curwen. Jack Lee is at London Irish, Amir Sultan-Edwards at Harlequins and Ioan Emanuel at Cardiff Rugby.

George Jones, Aaron Molnar and Max Ambrosini have been selected to represent the Lambs over the next few weeks, with George being named captain.

It was with great pleasure and pride that we saw the girls play in their first match vs Kings of Wessex. The team are preparing for the Rosslyn Park 7’s at the end of March.

OMs Josh Bayliss and Callum Sheedy have been selected to play for Scotland and Wales respectively in the upcoming Six Nations competition.

OMs Ewan Richards and Will Joseph have been selected into the England Rugby U20 squad for the upcoming Six Nations.

OMs Dan John, Oliver Burrows and Tom Cowan have been selected into the Wales Rugby U20 squad for the upcoming Six Nations.

OMs Josh Bayliss, Ewan Richards and Tom Ellis made for a Millfield back row in Bath’s recent win against Worchester Warriors.

In squash, Year 11 Amelie Haworth has become the U17 British Squash Champion.

In swimming, Lower Sixth Matthew Cairns, Elliot Woodburn, coach Rebecca Aldington and OMs Joseph Deighan, William Ellington and Calvin Fry have been selected for Swim England’s Junior Squad. Read more here.

Lower Sixth Solomon Williams (Elite Transition), Harry Hewitt (Youth Performance), Carys Graville (Youth Performance), Year 11 Richard Jenkins (Youth Performance), Year 9 Sophie Davies (Performance Foundation) have been selected into the Swim Wales programme. Upper Sixth Evan Jones and Charlotte Hardy (nomination list) have been selected for the Scottish Swimming National Junior Squad. Read more here.

We had three of our Scottish cohort head up to Edinburgh for the Scottish winter short course championships, Upper Sixth Evan Jones, Year 10 Charlotte Hardy and Georgina Hawkins. Both Charlotte and Georgina made it through to finals and swam best times across multiple events. Evan managed to break a Scottish Age group record in the 400m IM in a time of 4.15.29. He also came away with the following hardware: Senior silver in the 400m IM 4.15.29, silver 200m IM 2.00.67 and bronze in the 200m Freestyle 1.48.53.

We had small cohort of students compete in Swansea and the Swim Wales winter long course championships, Millfield students came away with nine gold medals, six silver medals and seven bronze medals.

Millfield swimmers have also signed for US universities on swimming scholarships. Upper Sixth Tamryn van Selm will be attending North Carolina State University, Ciara Vogler will attend Grinnell College and Isabella Renwick will join the University of Massachusetts, Amhurst.

In tennis, congratulations to Upper Sixth Caitlin Mcloughlin who has signed to attend Merrimack College (Div 1 NCAA) on a tennis scholarship, from September 2022.

Lower Sixth Calum Jessett placed third in the Men’s Tier 1 Progress Tour event in Cardiff. At the Mixed Tier 2 Progress Tour event in Taunton, Year 9 Joshua Craze finished second.

Lower Sixth James Sclater reached the last 16 of the Men’s £10,000 Progress Tour event in Cardiff.

Year 11 Sarah Long won the women’s South West tour event in Bournemouth.

Year 9 Laila Moledina won the U14 Girls Singles title at the White Horse Junior Indoors Championship.

Year 9 Hugo Dunn placed third at the LTA National Age Group Programme Invitational event in Bolton.

Lower Sixth Francesca Davis was a semi-finalist at the LTA British Tour end of year Masters event.

Lower Sixth Fin Edwards won the Men’s South West Tour event in Devon.

In trampolining, 12 students competed at the South West School’s Trampoline Championships. Year 10 Ellis James won the Year 10-14 Elite Boys competition.

Alice McIntyre Newton finished fourth in the Year 10-14 Intermediate Girls section.

In the Year 11-14 Novice Boys section, Year 11 Emery Taylor finished second, Lower Sixth Patrick Salisbury finished third and our team of Emery, Patrick, Lower Sixth Jake Regester and Year 11 Luidji Louis-Hansen won. All six students mentioned above have now qualified to the Southern Zonal Championships in January.

In triathlon, OM Niall Caley has been selected to represent the Isle of Man at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
