Millfield Sport will be running the next Parents in Sport Webinar on Tuesday 27th April when the panel will discuss 'Understanding the Development Journey in Sport'.

In Athletics, congratulations to Upper Sixth Jami Schlueter who has signed on a scholarship at University of Washington.

Director of Athletics Alan Richardson presented to the Athletics group on his experiences from international competition in his various roles as National Coach and Team Leader for GB and England Teams.

In Cricket, Lower Sixth Jess Hazell has signed for Western Storm academy. Jess joins 14 young cricketers in the academy which will provide high-level coaching, equipment and access to the club’s doctor, physio and strength and conditioning coach, to aid the young cricketers in their sporting endeavors. The Millfield Cross Country team participated in the Shrewsbury School Global running virtual 5km race. The event also doubled as part of the virtual English Schools cross country event where nationwide placings will be confirmed over the Easter break. Congratulations to Upper Sixth student, Max Nicola who completed the race in 16.40, Lower Sixth Hamish Barry (16.45), Year 10 Jack Harvey and Upper Sixth Pia Lewis (20.24). The remaining field all crossed the line in sub 23 minutes.

In Football, the 1st XI are currently training hard for their first fixture of 2021 taking place at Kingweston on Wednesday 31st March against Forest Green Rovers Academy (due to Covid restrictions, unfortunately no supporters are allowed).

In Golf, students have been partaking in online sessions and activities during the lockdown period. Well done to everyone for their consistent effort and positive engagement.

In Modern Pentathlon, students have been engaging in both indoor and outdoor training to continue their development within their sport.

In Netball, Lower Sixth Isla Niddrie and Upper Sixth Olivia Ralph have signed for the new Team Bath U18 development squad. Read more.

Millfield Rugby has had a representative in every home nations’ squad for the 2021 Six Nations competition. Former Millfield students Mako Vunipola (England), Huw Jones (Scotland), Callum Sheedy (Wales) and Rhys Ruddock (Ireland) have all featured on the team sheets for their respective national squads. Millfield Sports staff have been taking part in an internal CDP programme. Staff have attended three workshops this month, each sharing lessons learnt and their journeys into coaching at Millfield. Equestrian Sports Programme Manager Mel Wilder and Assistant Director of Rugby Mike Baxter discussed how adversity is vital in development and being passionate about learning. Tennis coach Dan Manlow and sports intern Zach Harrop explored how failure breeds success and shapes life as well as developing empathy. The final coaching session was held by the New Director of Tennis Alex Walker and Rugby Intern Foard Cooksley presenting to the group on their journeys and career planning.

Our Performance Analysis team have been offering sports staff extensive support during weekly training sessions across campus through lockdown.

The inaugural Millfield Wellbeing & Mental Health Programme ran from February half term until Easter. The programme was in collaboration with @MoonshotSeries, sports psychologist Katie Warriner and was devised in response to an initiative from Upper Sixth student Lucy-Jane Matthews. The programme consisted of special sports guest podcasts, webinars and practical advice for students and staff.
