Millfield Ski Team

Millfield has established itself as one of the leading schools for ski instruction and athlete development in the British Isles. Our ski team consistently delivers outstanding results at the National Schools’ Championships, a reflection of the high-performance culture and expert coaching that defines our programme. 

Training is tailored to the individual, allowing each student to progress at their own pace and in a style that suits them. This personalised approach supports not only technical growth but also long-term enjoyment of the sport. 

Throughout the Autumn and early Spring terms, our athletes train at local dry slopes and regularly compete in the NSSA Race League. We also attend multiple sessions at Hemel Hempstead’s indoor snow centre for both racing and training. On-snow training and competition are integral to our calendar, with the team travelling to Europe for prestigious events such as the British Schoolgirls and Schoolboys Races in France and Switzerland, and the British Interschools Ski Challenge in Switzerland. 

We proudly support students who compete in FIS and other high-level ski races during term time, recognising the importance of real-world racing experience. 

Our record speaks for itself: Millfield has claimed multiple National Schools’ titles on artificial slopes and international school victories in the Alps. We are also proud of our alumni, including James Whitley (Millfield 2011–2016, Joan’s Kitchen), who represented Team GB at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Many current and former students compete at national and international levels, continuing Millfield’s legacy of excellence in alpine skiing. 

Millfield Ski Team work with Impulse Racing each year to provide high-quality race training sessions every Wednesday afternoon at local dry ski slopes. Weekly strength and conditioning sessions have also been put in place and take place every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes. Students participate in dry ski slope and snowdome races throughout the year and also compete in races abroad with recent destinations including France, Italy and Switzerland. The Millfield Ski Team is suitable for all abilities, both new and experienced skiers. Tracey has a lot of skiing experience and has been a part of the Millfield Ski Team for a number of years. Year 10 Amelia- 'Being part of the school ski team has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my school life. The team has helped me develop my confidence, determination, and teamwork skills. Outside of school, I have competed in multiple GB Alpine races and placed top five in many, which has allowed me to further improve my skiing. I am proud to represent my school and contribute to the team’s success!'
