There are currently over 100 Millfield students who dance as part of their Games programme. We offer over 30 classes throughout the week. Classes are available in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Street Dancing, Contemporary and Musical Theatre.
Our six dance tutors offer a wide range of expertise and work to prepare students for exam work, taking junior and senior dance classes, and acting as choreographers for dance shows and school musicals.
In all disciplines, lessons range from beginners to advance level and the wide choice of sessions ensures students of all standards are catered for. We study the Royal Academy of Dance ballet syllabus and we currently offer classes from Grade 5 to Intermediate. We also teach the I.S.T.D Intermediate Modern and Grade 6 Tap syllabuses.
Dance students can audition to be a part of one of the elite dance groups, 'Bazique', 'Lavolta', and 'Veleta', as a full time dancer. Alongside this they can also apply to be in 'Aspire', our group for gifted and talented dance students across all year groups. 'Aspire' dancers all have a shared ambition to pursue a career in dance.
All dance classes work towards the annual Dance Show in March. Over 1,000 parents, staff and students come to see this show which runs for four nights and has evolved as one of the most popular events in the school calendar. We also hold 'Tea and Dance' performances throughout the year in which students have the opportunity to showcase the skills they have been learning. In the Autumn Term, in November, we have a Ballet Dance Show. In the Summer Term, students participate in workshops with a professional dance company to produce a dance piece which is performed as part of the Summer Show.
