Millfield celebrates online Identity and Inclusion Week

Millfield students and staff celebrated the School’s second annual Identity and Inclusion Week online as part of its Pastoral programme during the month of June. The week is entirely pupil-led, with the students’ Equality and Diversity Group working with staff representatives to create a schedule of fun and educational activities to enrich and celebrate all that makes us unique.

Virtual activities included a Sunday chapel service, a Lower Sixth takeover of PSHEE sessions, and a whole school video organised through houses. Watch the video here.

The week began with the launch of the ‘BE AUTHENTIC’ virtual art exhibition and auction, featuring thought-provoking work by students and staff from the Millfield community. View the exhibition here.

Highlights from the week included bespoke school council meetings with discussions for continuing to promote equality and diversity at Millfield, as well as considerations around the recent events in the US and Black Lives Matter. The meetings also discussed how the school can continue to educate students about unconscious bias.

Students also had the opportunity to speak to visiting speaker and OM Dr Rachael Bullingham, a specialist in Gender Equality in Sport. Watch the discussion here.

The week culminated with a celebration of talent in the form of a Virtual Showcase in aid of Mencap charities live on the school’s YouTube channel. The event was a roaring success, with £420 raised for local and national charities that support MENCAP. Watch the event again here.
