Millfield students score in UK’s top 5% for Bebras computing challenge

Millfield students have scored in the top 5% nationally in the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge.

Year 9 students James B, Isaac S, Lucy B, Verner K, Imogen L and Emery T achieved scores in the top five percent of the country in the intermediate competition for students in Years 8 and 9.

Over 200 Millfield students competed in the intermediate competition out of 130,000 nationally. In the senior category (Year 10 and 11), 44 students participated out of a total of 22,000 with Year 10s George S and Anthony D scoring in the top 5%. Twenty-two Millfield students competed in the elite category for Sixth Form students, out of a total of 7,000.

The nationwide competition is aimed at raising awareness of Computer Science in a fun and rewarding way. Bebras introduces computational thinking to students in 40 countries over the world. The competition culminates in a final competition and celebration where the top performing students in each age category are invited to compete. In recent years we have had two students invited to the final, both when they were in Year 9; Max F (now Upper Sixth) and James M (now Year 11).
